If you're looking for professional ABPM prep to help you prepare for exam day, Varsity Tutors offers comprehensive ABPM classes to help you build your study skills. ABPM (American Board of Preventive Medicine) offers several Certifications for doctors who wish to demonstrate that their commitment to patient care goes beyond the minimum standards set by medical licensure. If you want the best ABPM test preparation possible, contact us to learn more about the benefits of a one-on-one ABPM course!
The first step in ABPM prep is determining whether you are actually eligible for the certification you are seeking. The bullet list below may be used as a checklist to determine your eligibility:
Qualifications to Seek ABPM Certification
- Current unrestricted Medical License in the US or Canada
- If a doctor has more than one Medical license, all must be unrestricted
- Successful completion of an approved training program
- -OR-
- Qualifying experience providing quality patient care in a medical practice
If you meet these criteria, it's time to shift your ABPM test prep into high gear. ABPM offers three Specialization Certifications (Aerospace Medicine, Occupational Medicine, and Public Health and Preventive Medicine) and four additional Subspecialization Certifications (Undersea and Hyperbalmic Medicine, Medical Toxicology, Clinical Informatics, and Addiction Medicine). Each is associated with its own high-stakes test, and there is also a general "Core Exam" for the three Specialization Certifications. Every test has unique content, but the structure is relatively uniform.
All tests are computer-based and administered at Prometric Testing Centers. If you aren't comfortable with digital exams, you might want to take practice tests during an ABPM class to develop a familiarity with its interface. Likewise, all of the questions are multiple-choice. ABPM tutors may be able to show you how to leverage a test against itself during your ABPM test prep. There's no penalty for guessing, so effective time management strategies may also be a focus of your ABPM preparation to help you answer every question.
The table below provides a breakdown of the content on the ABPM Occupational Medicine Exam:
ABPM Occupational Medicine Exam Content Areas | Exam Percentage |
Prevention, Exposure Assessment, Hazard Recognition and Control | 20 |
Clinical Patient Care | 60 |
OEHS Administration and Systems-Based Practice | 20 |
Many ABPM courses emphasize Clinical Patient Care questions because they comprise a majority of the exam. However, what if you're more comfortable with that section than one of the other two? One-on-one ABPM tutoring provides the flexibility to study whatever you need to. You can spend as much time on a challenging concept as you need to, as there is no rush to finish a set curriculum within a limited time frame.
A private instructor may also be able to design ABPM test prep sessions around your individual learning style. A visual learner might review flashcards containing common medical hazards and how to avoid them, while an auditory learner might get more out of a lecture covering the same material.
At Varsity Tutors, we also try to make ABPM prep as convenient as possible. Every session takes place on our Live Learning Platform, giving you the benefits of face-to-face instruction without the headache of trying to arrange an in-person meetup. We also try to refer every student to an instructor who fits into their schedule, since we understand how busy working adults can get. Why should you need to plan your entire life around ABPM test prep?
If you would like to learn more about ABPM prep, contact Varsity Tutors today for more information. Knowledgeable Educational Directors are standing by to help out with any concerns you may have.
