I am Dr. B, your reading, phonics, writing, and esl specialist. I earned my doctorate degree from Walden University. I have more than 25 years experience providing academic instructions in elementary education. I am passionate about bringing quality education whether the learning is online in the comforts of your own home or in person face to face one-on-one, in a small group, or a whole group setting at school. I love teaching young children because everyday is different, exciting, and fun specially when everyone comes back the next day and tell me their own stories. I love being a part of children's lives, and as I listen attentively to their stories, I know that I am building their skills and self esteem. When children develop self esteem, they gain confidence in learning. I chose to specialize in reading and phonics because it helps in building vocabulary and language skills that every student needs to succeed in all subjects. I always give writing activities after reading sentences and stories because it improves fluency and comprehension. Writing helps in communication and thinking skills. Reading and writing are related. I tend to focus on reading, phonics, and writing strategies and techniques because it makes teaching and learning effective, fun, and interactive. My reading/phonics strategies are simple. I use questioning for comprehension. I provide ample practices to focus on what is being taught and what is there for students to learn. I summarize new lessons to help students review content areas related to what was learned. I provide plenty of feedbacks such as good job, very good, thumbs up, high five, etc. to recognize their efforts and accomplishments. Remember, rewards and praises are great reinforcers. I use repetition techniques throughout my lessons because I believe that repetition learning is the basic technique for effective learning process. The idea is one quickly recalls letter and sound correspondences, the word meaning, and the understanding of each sentence by repeating over and over. I model and apply what was learned so that students can develop their ability to work independently. These following sentences describe me as a teacher and as a person away from school. I communicate positively and very well with students to support their learning. I listen attentively when students communicate with me to build their skills and confidence level. I focus on teacher and student collaboration as well as parent participation so that we can develop a connection to communicate with one another as an equal partner in education. I am flexible and adaptable because everyday is different and the learning constantly changes as we change our subject areas. I engage my students with humor and creative activities to build their thinking skills. I treat students with respect and I am empathetic and understanding of what might be going on with their lives. I am patient and really value the planning of effective teaching to support students' experiences in the classroom and learning at home. With that being said, you should choose me as your teacher. I look forward to working with you as we explore the fascinating worlds of reading, phonics and writing. Until then, I hope to see you soon.

For instance pre-assessment and post-assessment were issued that consisted of science content along with the following learning styles: visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and reading and writing. This approach aided in each student having a tailored made lesson plan.

Although I will not say that I am working towards building a legacy, I know that it is an inevitable by-product of living life. I often think of the magnitude of responsibility on my shoulders as an educator and the thousands of learners that my actions will influence over the next 15-20 years, and I'm adamant that my influence will be a positive one. It is my hope to push each student of mine toward being their best adult self. Through their learning experiences with me, they will have a stronger sense of self and good character, curiosity about the world around them, and thirst for knowledge. As a teacher leader, I hope to inspire change in any school culture that I'm a part of by moving the vision of the school forward, building strong teachers to improve their self-efficacy and student learning outcomes, making the experience at school student-centered.My success with student progress towards mastery comes in helping students find something they like about all aspects of learning. What I've found is that once students connect to something they are strong in within a subject, they are more likely to work hard to continue feeling the elation that accompanies being successful. It's my job to help them tap into the success that is steadily brewing just beneath the surface. I do that by creating shared learning experiences that cater to my students as individuals and treat them as the unique learners that they are.

Philosophy of Education Diversity. I believe that through understanding the diverse makeup of our students I will be able to better educate my students by means of creating lessons which speak to their varying learning styles, their biological polarities, altitude of readiness, and their cultural backdrops. As Sheets states, "to be effective as a teacher, you must understand and acknowledge the critical role culture plays in the teaching-learning process". (2005) Instructional design. I believe that using knowledge of my students individuality and cultural diversity, as well as observing and taking note of their on-going social interactions within the classroom will help drive my instructional design to be inclusive and up-to-date with the students needs. Leo Vygotsky, a Russian psychologist said "through others we become ourselves". I believe that instructors who apply the Sociocultural Learning Theory in their instructional design can also become aware of how learners may directly impact one another, as well as how cultural "norms" can influence a learner's learning behavior". (Pappas, 2015) Values. I want to instill in my students a value for education and thus help create lifelong learners. "Lifelong learning is a public good, for the benefit and welfare of everyone in society, not just the preserve of a few" .(Aspin & Chapman, 2001) I believe that we have a duties to ourselves to expand our perspectives, as well as a duties to our society for progress and advancement. Evidence. I want to teach in such a manner that it is evident that I am meeting the needs of the students. As a practitioner of education I should always be seeking out feedback, and to accomplish this I must provide observable and measurable, both quantitative and qualitative evidence that I am meeting the needs of my students. My goal will be to use many sources to gather and document evidence. I will show evidence of teaching and learning through my planning procedures, rigorous and appropriate learning activities, teacher-student dialogue, collaborative learning opportunities, and assessments to name a few. Reflection. "Reflective practice is a problem-solving strategy by which individuals or groups can work to improve practice by reviewing routines and the procedures and other aspects of the instructional environment". (Burden & Byrd, 2016). In order to progress in any area one must reflect. I will employ a systematic approach to reflections so that I can make educated decisions within my classroom and my instruction. I will also expect that my students reflect in the same manner. Asking simple questions such as "What happened? Why did it happen? What could I have done differently? What might it mean for student learning?" (Burden & Byrd, 2016) will help guide my reflection and help me adjust to the needs of my students. Student-centered Learning. My goal is to teach the process of student-centered learning to my students and allow them to attempt and complete activities on their own. Although, we as a culture are heavily vested in teacher-centered strategies and there may be resistance placed around student-centered learning, the goal is for the students to ultimately think on their own, and adjust their strategies of learning appropriate to the task. Student-centered learning moves students from passive receivers of information to active participants in their own discovery process. Education is a journey and it is necessary to teach strategies to students on how to navigate through their personal journey. Guide them, not lead them. Employability skills. I believe that my duty as an educator is to provide as much opportunity and experience to my students which will furnish them with adequate employability skills for them to be marketable in any career they choose. "it is no longer sufficient for a new graduate to have knowledge of an academic subject; increasingly it is necessary for students to gain those skills which will enhance their prospects of employment. Employability skills include the following abilities: the retrieval and handling of information; communication and presentation; planning and problem solving; and social development and interaction". (Fallows & Steven, 2000) References Aspin, D. N., & Chapman, J. D. (2001). Lifelong Learning: Concepts, Theories, and Values. I earned my doctorate from Walden University with a concentration in Educational Technology. I earned my Bachelor of Arts and Master of Science degrees from Hunter College, focusing on Early Childhood and Elementary Education and Literacy, respectively. As a veteran educator, I have worked with students one-on-one, in small groups, and whole-class settings, in-person and virtually in the public, charter, and private schools. My day-to-day experience with early childhood and elementary students is focused on supporting their understanding of reading, writing, and mathematics, including specific instruction for students enrolled in the English as a New Language program, which also involves preparing them for standardized tests. My favorite subject to tutor is writing because it is an avenue for expression and unique to the individual. Everyone learns at a different pace and in different ways, so it is essential to offer various learning opportunities. My tutoring style involves strategic technology integration that allows student interaction while providing the content from different perspectives. My passion for educating drives my will to serve students. I am eager to guide students who seek understanding.
