I used to be a failure. I was not good at math and I was not (truly) good at any of the sciences. I did not know how to learn at all and I would forget everything I learn in 2 months. People would call me smart but I would feel like a complete fraud. I stuck that fact deep inside my mind so that I can always remember that I was never anything special. However, I turned that fact into strength! It did not matter whether others outpaced me. It did not matter whether someone understood it better than I did. All I had to do was defeat myself; the part of my identity that kept me from my dreams. This is my teaching philosophy. I believe everyone is the same way. Seeing true results can not happen over night. Like exercise, learning requires discipline, and with daily effort, leads to powerful results. I would rebuild foundations so that nothing would collapse along the way. This has been my method of study since my graduation from Forsyth Technical Community College with my Associates in Arts. As a Computer Science Major at University of Greensboro at North Carolina, I learned quickly that caring about correct answers is not enough. I have to be the math itself. I believe working from the philosophical end via mathematical logic then working up to higher math is the path for success in the field. As one may suspect, Mathematics, Computer Science, and the Natural Sciences are my prime interests (and the subjects I tutor). They carry big importance to me because I have the goals of developing my own computerized agricultural, health analytic, and photovoltaic system. These goals can only be possible by studying their related fields. I spread this knowledge through my history of interacting with students as a Computer Science lab instructor. I would guide students through their java assignments and refresh key concepts that would be important for their success. In addition, I helped underprivileged students at a local high school in their mathematics and science classes, in hopes that they too will see its uses. To conclude, I truly enjoy teaching. I want to spread the importance the sciences have on our lives and I want everyone to succeed. So hopefully, I will have an opportunity to share my passions soon (through tutoring of course)!

Rather, what we lack is the skill to weed out noises, lies, and falsehoods from all the information available to us. Knowing this, in my teaching practice, I try my best to inculcate a critical thinking method in my students so that they can achieve lifetime learning on their own. I will teach students how to gather information and evaluate the voracity of it, and how to apply good information to solve a problem. My goal is to help student to internalize information so that it can be elevated to knowledge, which might also be elevated to wisdom if a student knows to integrate information.

To ensure I cover all aspects of learning to read I use various proven curriculum, Heggerty, UFLI (University of Florida Literary Institute), West Virginia Phonics, and Fundations by Wilson Language among other strategies like songs, games, edtech and worksheets. These programs are designed with sequential skill learning lessons and activities along with opportunities for me to progress monitor growth and reteach using a vertical alignment of Phonological Awareness and Phonics along with Reading Comprehension that is necessary at all stages of learning to read. I hold a master's degree in English from Boston College, and I have 5-6 years of tutoring experience, depending on the subject. I also teach college level writing and English.I tutor ESL/ELL, English, Writing, Editing, Grammar and Style, SAT Reading, and Literature. I most enjoy tutoring writing, since that's what I teach, and literature, since that's what I enjoy studying most.My tutoring (and teaching) style is relatively informal, since I like to make sure students are comfortable both with me and the material. My highest honor is winning UNCG's 2024 English Excellence Award for my superior academic achievement in the Rhetoric and Public Advocacy minor. While my awards demonstrate my dedication to academic success, my time at UNCG's Writing Center demonstrates my dedication to the success of others.
