I've been a teacher and tutor for over 30 years, both in schools and online. I received my M.Ed. in Early Childhood Education from Kennesaw State University in Georgia. I started out as a music therapist and have a bachelor's degree in music therapy. After working as a therapist for a few years I became certified as a Primary Montessori (ages 3-6) teacher. As a music therapist I worked with both children and adults but went into early childhood education when I realized that working with PreK and Kindergarten students was my passion. I love how open and honest kids in that age group are, even on the days when they ask, "Did you make your hair look like that on purpose?" I specialize in helping PreK students get ready for kindergarten and helping kindergarteners stay on or ahead of grade level if they're falling behind. My favorite subject to tutor is phonics/reading. I love seeing my students' faces light up when they realize they are reading by themselves! I love reading and want all my students to love it too! My teaching philosophy is centered around respecting students and appreciating who they are as individuals. I make lessons fun and use my guitar whenever I can. Everybody needs a dance break when they've been working hard on something! Sometimes I have a student who doesn't enjoy music and that's okay too. We probably still have something in common. My students know I love Marvel superheroes, unicorns, and coloring!When I'm not teaching I love spending time with my family and friends, listening to music, playing guitar, piano, or drums, reading, and hanging out with my dog. Presently, I work as an associate attorney, and in my free time, I mentor young adults and volunteer at various organizations serving the less fortunate. I love reading, exploring new places and cultures, and I enjoy meeting new people.My academic career has been challenging but rewarding. I am currently enrolled in the MAT TESOL program with Kennesaw State University. I do currently teach with a program called QKids, which teaches Chinese children English. I tried my hardest not to become a teacher. My mom was a teacher, my godmother was a teacher, and both grandmothers were teachers. However, it is clearly in my blood because here I am 20 years after graduating with a bachelor's and master's in education! I love teaching. I love to see the ah-ha moment on a student's face. I don't really have a favorite subject to teach because the subject isn't what makes teaching fun. It is the students. I am a Junior Computer Science Major at Kennesaw State University. Throughout my education I have assisted friends and peers with understanding conceptual ideas of subjects, and I have been fairly good at it. People always ask me why I chose to become a teacher. The truth is that I always knew. Ever since I was a little girl, my mother would always find me with all my toys lined up in front of me, and me in front of a chalkboard teaching them how to draw.There is really nothing like teaching. I think it is the most gratifying profession in the world. I absolutely love the outcome of what I do because I believe in long lasting relationships and long lasting thirst for knowledge. That is exactly what I teach my students. I teach them that the sky is the limit and that "I can't" should not be a part of their vocabulary. I am great at seeing the potential in everyone and not giving up until they see it too and live up to it.For the past 7 years, I have been a part of a wonderful community while working as a High School I.B. Art Teacher for the American School of Quito in Ecuador. I worked with 11th and 12th graders on the production of high quality art production, careful planning, reflection and written critical analysis with creative problem solving skills. After having a fantastic Spanish teacher starting in kindergarten through grade five, I had a bit of hiatus in my learning until going to college where I reached fluency by interacting with friends and teammates along with my own studying. Soon after beginning college, a synergy emerged when I bolstered my informal learnings of Spanish with formal university classes. I graduated from Kennesaw State University with a B.S. in Integrative Studies and a minor in Spanish in 2018 after testing out of several upper level Spanish courses. I love teaching/tutoring. I first fell in love with teaching when my niece and nephew were young. I would take them on walks and seek to explain to them everything around us. I am an English teacher who instructs students at the secondary level in English 9 as well as ENGL 1101 and 1102 at the college level. I graduated in 2011 from Kennesaw State University with a Master of Arts degree in Writing. Additionally, I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in English Education from Western Carolina University in 2008. I have taught first-year seminar courses as well as learning support English courses at Kennesaw State University; I advised students there for four years after graduation. I teach students who are new to high school and familiarize them with the writing process, and I work with them in reading comprehension, literary analysis, and advanced vocabulary. I am a college adjunct instructor as well and enjoy guiding those students toward becoming academic writers prepared for that specific discourse community. Those courses also focus on rhetoric and writing in all college disciplines. I prefer to tutor students who struggle with writing, and I enjoy seeing the improvement in my students. As a high school teacher, I am familiar with the requirements of the ACT and have experience working with students to improve their scores on the verbal and writing portions of the exam.
