After receiving my Bachelor of Arts in English from Winthrop University I moved to Kennesaw State University and earned a Master of Arts in Professional Writing. Since then I have worked as an instructor and freelance writer. I have been published in The Escapist, Paste Magazine, and Gameranx. I have also designed two critically acclaimed video games.Along with writing, teaching is a huge passion of mine. I've tutored for four years, helping students become better writers. I've also worked as an English instructor at a college and technical school and know what level of academic performance is expected from students at the college level. I wish to help students not only exceed those expectations but also to give them tools that will help them succeed outside of school as well.

I recently retired after serving thirty years as a public school teacher and administrator in metro Atlanta. I hold four education degrees from UGA, Kennesaw State, West Georgia, and Lincoln Memorial University. My areas of specialization in the classroom were in Social Studies (broad-based History and Government) and Mathematics (up to High School Algebra). I also was a teacher in the Gifted program for fifteen years. In addition to my classroom teaching duties, I also served as an academic tutor for homeless and displaced students and as a basketball coach. My administrative years were spent with elementary school students. As a teacher and coach, I was known for being fun, but firm, interesting, but intense in my expectations.and I was not afraid to try different things to ensure that true teaching and authentic learning occurred for my students. During my last five years in the classroom, my students had a 98+ percent meets and exceeds pass rate on their subject-specific state standardized tests.I was honored to serve as the President of the Georgia Association of Educators for four years; in which, I was able to travel throughout the state and nation engaging students and other educators to advocate for the positive transformation power of how public education empowers and enhances the lives of millions of students and their families throughout our nation. In my spare time, I enjoy amusement parks (love roller coasters), college athletics (Go Dawgs), oldies music (swing and big band), ballroom dancing, and cruises..when I'm not going to the movies with my daughter (my Russian princess) or the park with my rescue dog, Doyle.

Hello! My name is Jaime Rakowski, or "Mrs. Rakowski" to my students. I am a graduate of Central Michigan University as well as Kennesaw State University. In the 8 years after I graduated from CMU with my Bachelors of Applied Arts in Child Development, I worked in many daycares as my husband and I moved for his job. During this time, I worked with infants-school aged children. After settling down here in Georgia, I went back to KSU to earn a second bachelors degree. This time it was a Bachelors of Science in Early Childhood Education. After graduating from KSU, I was hired to teach 3rd grade at the elementary school that I student taught for. I spent 3 years in 3rd grade and moved down to 2nd grade where I taught an additional 3.5 years. In early 2021, I also received my ESOL certification.Working with children from birth-5th grade, I have seen the huge importance of early childhood literacy. Early literacy has a major impact on a student's success in and out of the classroom. This is where my passion lies. But reading isn't the only thing that I love to teach! I also love math and social studies. Above all, I love to learn and I love to foster and build that love of learning within each of the students that I work with.

The English language has always fascinated me. It began when I was young, with my mom reading to me and sharing her own passion for literature. I soon began obsessively reading on my own, and that has continued to this day; I have a collection of over two hundred books that I am very proud of.My interest in reading blossomed naturally into writing. In school, I had to analyze the books I was reading, which made them even more interesting to me. They were saying much more than what was written on the page. Being able to decipher hidden meanings in stories and then articulate my ideas about them in writing made it even more exciting for me.When I began college, I chose English as my major so that I could further my knowledge of literature and hone my skills as a reader and writer. I received my Associate's Degree in English from Gordon State College, and then transferred to Kennesaw State University, where I am currently one semester away from obtaining my Bachelor's Degree in English with two minors: Professional Writing and Film Studies. After my Bachelor's Degree, I plan to pursue a Master's Degree in Professional Writing and, perhaps after that, a PhD in Linguistics.During my time at KSU, I have become much more interested in creative writing. I have written several short stories, both fiction and nonfiction, although fiction is my favorite. I have also become interested in the Film and Television industries. My fascination with analyzing literature has grown to include analyzing films and TV, as well. I have begun screenwriting and I hope to one day work for a network as a TV screenwriter. I spend much of my time watching TV shows and movies on Netflix, but I think of it more as research for my future career than leisure, although it is a little bit of both.At KSU, I am also a Writing Assistant at the Writing Center. This is where I began tutoring. I work with members of the KSU community with anything writing related. Through the Writing Center, I have received many opportunities to travel to conferences to discuss writing, my research, and Writing Centers themselves. I have also been given the opportunity to lead a group of young creative writers and teach them the fundamentals of creating a story. With this job at the Writing Center, as well as with working with Varsity Tutors, I found a way to use what I am passionate about to help others. My experience, both personal, academic, and professional, have given me an extensive knowledge of the English language, including the technical aspects of grammar and style. I enjoy sharing my knowledge and watching others discover their potential as a writer.I look forward to working with you on anything English and writing related!

I have been a teacher of Mathematics and Physics since 2008. I earned a BA in Mathematics and a MS in Statistics. I believe every student can learn and it's the job of the teacher to ensure that the student's unique learning style is activated. I am certified to teach Physics and Mathematics, and am currently working as an instructor of Mathematics and Programming at the Interactive College of Technology and Kennesaw State University. I believe when a subject is presented correctly, any student can develop a love for it. I have taught elementary students, high school students and college students, everything from basic Arithmetic to Vector Calculus and Complex Analysis. My experiences as a teacher have led me to stress the importance of realizing what the transferable skills are from Mathematics and that it is a human endeavor, above all else. I take a holistic approach to teaching, which means that students are expected to reason through problems algebraically, graphically, pictorially and verbally. When students are able to synthesize these four approaches to concept mastery, real understanding emerges, and students, perhaps for the first times in their lives, see what they are truly doing. Thanks for reading my profile, and I am eager to help your child discover the beauty of Mathematics, Statistics and Physics.

People always ask me why I chose to become a teacher. The truth is that I always knew. Ever since I was a little girl, my mother would always find me with all my toys lined up in front of me, and me in front of a chalkboard teaching them how to draw. There is really nothing like teaching. I think it is the most gratifying profession in the world. I absolutely love the outcome of what I do because I believe in long lasting relationships and long lasting thirst for knowledge. That is exactly what I teach my students. I teach them that the sky is the limit and that "I can't" should not be a part of their vocabulary. I am great at seeing the potential in everyone and not giving up until they see it too and live up to it.For the past 7 years, I have been a part of a wonderful community while working as a High School I.B. Art Teacher for the American School of Quito in Ecuador. I worked with 11th and 12th graders on the production of high quality art production, careful planning, reflection and written critical analysis with creative problem solving skills. This job has brought enormous opportunities for professional and personal growth. Being part of this demanding program has been very challenging but also filled with rewards. Making students' faces light up when their hard efforts pay off and they finally "get it", is priceless! My I.B. annual scores have always been above world average. My students have participated in national and international art contests with magnificent results with prizes and awards. I have formed an amazing bond with them that, I am sure, will last a lifetime. I still have students who I taught 7 years ago, tell me that what I taught them has stayed with them all these years. And like I said, that is what teaching is all about. That is why I became a teacher.I have good conflict resolution skills, I am patient, I am fair and I have enthusiastic energy. I believe I am qualified for a teaching job within your community and I will make a valuable addition to your team.

After having a fantastic Spanish teacher starting in kindergarten through grade five, I had a bit of hiatus in my learning until going to college where I reached fluency by interacting with friends and teammates along with my own studying. Soon after beginning college, a synergy emerged when I bolstered my informal learnings of Spanish with formal university classes. I graduated from Kennesaw State University with a B.S. in Integrative Studies and a minor in Spanish in 2018 after testing out of several upper level Spanish courses. During my studies, I tutored fellow Spanish learning college students in the Foreign Language and Resource Center on campus, helping those having trouble along with those that wanted to put in extra work for the love of the language. I continued on to study abroad in Malaga, Spain where I was fortunate to be able to travel much of southern Spain, as well as Europe, learning bits of storied history and culture at every turn. It is my goal to help you achieve your goals! For students of all learning levels from struggling to gifted to adults; I am a passionate proponent of not just helping students learn the material, but helping them to learn how to learn the material by allotting focus on not just a student's goals, but the process therein. Some of my interests beyond Spanish and foreign languages are space exploration, playing guitar and soccer, technology, the outdoors and science fiction books and tv/film.

I am an undergraduate student at Kennesaw State University, pursuing a Bachelor in the Arts of English alongside a Minor in Professional Writing. Since I was a kid, I've loved reading and writing. After graduating, I decided to share my expertise with other students, and realized that English is a subject many students struggle in. It is a difficult subject to teach, but an important one in our day and age; whatever a student's aspirations may be, a firm grasp of reading and writing is an essential skill. That's why I'm so passionate about tutoring this subject. In a large classroom, it can be hard to take the time to give each student the personal attention they need. Every student's level of understanding is different, so I believe in offering specific, personalized help for students who want to improve their writing. I love tutoring all things English, from Essay Writing and Editing, to Reading Comprehension, all the way to Composition.I believe communication is essential to our professional and personal aspirations, and hope that my students and I can help each other learn and grow as readers and writers.
