I have a B.A. in History from Georgia State University and taught my own four children via a home school curriculum, as we traveled the world for my previous job. During that time, we lived in seven countries on four continents and visited dozens more. It was a great learning experience for all of us, but we are happy to be back home. Additionally, I taught at a school for gifted and above average students in Indiana. My courses included Algebra, History, Geography, Economics, and Personal Finance.I tutor Math, History, Reading, Writing and a few other subjects; however, my favorite subject to tutor is math. It is also the one subject where, I feel, a good tutor/teacher can impact a student's performance the most.I believe learning should be fun. If you aren't having fun, you're doing it wrong. I like to laugh and do it often. I have always tested well, particularly in math, but I am not bookish, stale, or boring. I have four children - all teenagers! So I am a little crazy; however, I have developed a large amount of patience.

I am currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science at Georgia State University, where I have developed a strong foundation in problem-solving and analytical thinking. My passion for mathematics stems from its universal application and the satisfaction of helping others overcome challenges in the subject. I specialize in tutoring K-12 mathematics, including topics such as algebra, geometry, and pre-calculus. One of my favorite subjects to teach is algebra because it serves as a gateway to understanding more advanced concepts and builds critical thinking skills. My tutoring philosophy emphasizes patience, adaptability, and fostering a positive learning environment. I believe every student has the potential to excel with the right guidance and encouragement, and I tailor my approach to meet the unique needs of each individual. Whether it's breaking down complex problems into manageable steps or finding creative ways to explain concepts, I strive to make learning engaging and effective. Outside of academics, I enjoy exploring new technologies, coding, and working on personal projects that combine creativity with logic. These interests not only enhance my problem-solving abilities but also allow me to connect with students who share similar passions..

I received my PhD in Literary Studies/English from Georgia State University. My primary concentration was Medieval Literature, and my secondary concentration was History of the English Language. I love literature, words, and writing! While earning my PhD, I spent a semester in Venice, Italy, which really broadened my perspective on all aspects of language and writing. I taught English 1101/1102 English Composition to hundreds of students for five years at GSU. I also taught Survey of World Literature there, as well as Academic Writing at Mercer University as an adjunct professor. My doctoral dissertation has been downloaded hundreds of times around the world, and counting! It focuses upon specific representations of fantastic beasts and monsters in Old English writings (you've perhaps heard of the redoubtable Grendel?). Over my years of teaching, I immensely enjoyed working with students to enhance THEIR enjoyment of the writing process, which many did not initially feel that they possessed. I have always taken great satisfaction from accompanying students through the various stages of the writing process until arriving at polished finished products of which they were proud to call their own. In my spare time, I love reading (not a shock there), looking up word origins, writing, traveling a bit, and spending time with my family and friends.

Hi! My name is Tommy. I am currently enrolled in Georgia State University majoring in Chemistry/Pre-Pharmacy. I am bilingual in Chinese, both Mandarin and Cantonese. Subjects that I had taught in the past include mathematics from algebra to college calculus, Chemistry from general chemistry to college organic chemistry, economics, physics, and biology. I had been a tutor for almost 4 years now and I had taught in Georgia State University as a teacher assistant. I am dedicated to help and teach my students to excel in their academics. I had a lot of achievements when I was a tutor. I helped this young middle school student, who was struggling in algebra, to obtain the highest test grades in his class with a 96. I also helped a few biology students who were also struggling to improve in their academic performance. My strategy in tutoring is to observe, listen, understand, and help the student. Observe the student's past performance, listen to them and check to see why they have such poor performance, understand the requirements in their school curriculum, and then start helping the student to perform better in school.

I have just completed my MA in English Literature at Georgia State University, where I worked as a writing tutor in the Writing Studio and as an instructor for multiple sections of English 1101 and 1102. I have also spent a year working as a high school English Language Arts teacher. My favorite part of these jobs has been working one-on-one with students and writers, helping them improve their ability to convey themselves through writing. I believe in an interactive tutoring style, one in which I do not function as an editor or grammar-checking machine but rather as a collaborator with the tutee. I want to have conversations about writing, meaning, and intention with my tutees so that I can facilitate the flow of their ideas both globally (at the project level) and locally (at the sentence and paragraph level). Using this approach, I have seen writers improve not only the pieces which we worked on, but also improve their relationship to writing as an iterative process of self-expression and personal and professional growth, regardless of their disciplines or goals. My past work experience has reinforced my ability to carry out my pedagogical philosophy. During my time as a tutor, I helped students and alumni with a wide array of writing, including essays, resumes, grant writing, lab reports, screenplays, memoirs, and other creative writing. I worked closely with two MFA students on their art theses (one on sculpture and the other in mixed media painting) and a PhD candidate with her dissertation on chemistry pedagogy. I am familiar with AP, MLA, and Chicago styles of formatting. I also worked with a variety of special needs students. In 2019, I received the "Tutor of the Year" award from the Writing Studio (voted on by my peers and the Studio directors) As a graduate student, I developed strong research methodologies, making me especially adept at helping writers with research projects of any kind. As an instructor, I became adept at providing feedback to my students' assignments, specifically focusing on rhetoric and argumentation. Beyond post-secondary education, my year as a high school teacher made me familiar with the National Standards of Excellence for high school students and many ELA assignments and their learning outcomes. Based on these experiences, I am qualified to work with a wide age range of students and writers from many disciplines.

Learning Spanish from a young age has allowed me to see the world from an entirely new cultural lens and, more importantly, has enabled me to view American or Western culture from an outside point of view. Doing so has made me realize that the United States does not put enough emphasis on learning a second language, specifically Spanish. As a result, we are limited in how we see and interact with the world and other nations.I wish to take my experience studying Spanish and completing a Bachelors of Arts in Spanish to help others explore Hispanic culture by studying the Spanish language. I would concentrate on teaching grammar, with an emphasis on its communicate and conversational application, Spanish conversation, and critically analyze both American and Hispanic cultures as a whole to be able to draw distinctions and gain awareness about their own cultural lens. Furthermore, I wish to draw on my experiences with my TEFL certification, such as creating and carrying out lesson plans about teaching English, towards creating authentic, relevant lesson activities for tutoring Spanish so that they can reinforce and relate to the content they may have gone over in class. Lastly, my experience working in customer service and with children as a chess coach has given me valuable interpersonal skills which I use to be able to connect with students and focus on strengthening the learning strategy that works for them.

Salute, My name is Joel Everett and I have been tutoring now for 8 years. I started tutoring when I graduated high school at the age of 16 at the college of Tallahassee Community College, and then from there I went to Georgia state University which is where I received my bachelor's of science. From then on, I knew tutoring was not just a passion but also a great skill of mine. Since then, I have worked with large Corporations and Small L.L.C companies so I have quite the experience tutoring all kids from kindergarten all the way up to undergraduate seniors in college. On the other note outside of college I have been competing in chess competitions since I was in 6th grade, I have interned in laboratories at GSU, and TCC. Teaching is my higher than me calling it is something I don't just enjoy for myself but I enjoy help educating fellow people. Education is the key, to the lock of ignorance. After deciding working in a stem cell and cancer biology laboratory is not for me, I ventured into teaching and business. I cannot wait to help and meet the many students I will come across, because we all need each other to help each other, be better for one another.

Being interested and staying up to date on current events in technology and computing allows me to stay on top of the programming trends and be able to differentiate between the up and coming technologies and skills versus the ones that are becoming complacent and replaced.
