I just moved back to my hometown of Tempe after a five-year hiatus, during which I attended Colorado College. This little-known school offers a strong liberal arts curriculum, which allowed me to develop my talents in everything from the upper-level sciences (General and Organic Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, and Biochemistry) to English, Math (up to Calculus 2) and Spanish. My varied course of study gave me the chance to experience a wide range of subjects, yet it was Colorado College's location on the front range of the Rocky Mountains that fed my passion for the outdoors and eventually led me to a B.A. in Biology. I would love to tutor others to help them pursue a passion for the life sciences, especially if they are considering applying to dental school. I recently scored highly on the DAT (Dental Aptitude Test), which tests the same material as the MCAT, and feel I could prepare others as well for these difficult (and stressful!) tests.During my time at Colorado College I also had the amazing opportunity to study abroad in Costa Rica, where I was able to put nine years of Spanish education to practice. If you are looking for help with Spanish grammar, comprehension, or speaking-ability I can use my own command of the language to get you to the next level.Last, but not least, Colorado College's unique course of study is what prepared me well to become a tutor. At Colorado College we took courses on the "Block Plan," during which students took one course at a time, for one month only. This meant that the same group of about 15 students went to the same class everyday, making it very easy to form small study groups after class. Essentially, I spent four years tutoring (and receiving tutoring!) from my fellow classmates as we worked through class notes and problem sets. Bringing my experiences as both the tutor and tutee from these study sessions, I will strive to create a tutoring plan to your unique form of learning and sending you on your way.

I have a Bachelor of Arts from Colorado College, where I studied both history and pre-dentistry. I will soon be pursuing a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree, as well. In my free time, I enjoy figure skating, crocheting, and reading. In addition to tutoring, I also teach group figure skating lessons. I firmly believe in the value of education and have always approached academics with enthusiasm, especially math. I have always enjoyed working with numbers, and I have always had a great appreciation for math. I received a Bachelor's Degree in Science from Colorado College in 2004, a Master of Arts Degree in Poetics from The New College of California in 2008, and am currently in progress towards a Master's in Literary Studies at Georgia State University. I have served as a Professor of English at Berkeley College, in New Jersey, where I taught classes in Composition and Response to Literature. I have also served as an Education Intern with the National Park Service's Education program at Golden Gate National Recreation Area in San Francisco, where I led education programs for third-grade and sixth-grade students. I currently serve as a Substitute Teacher at The Westminster Schools in Atlanta. In my free time I enjoy writing poetry, running, hiking, and spending time with friends.I approach teaching through a student-centered philosophy--I listen to students' perspectives and help to guide them (using their starting point) toward successful strategies. I aim to make students aware of organizational processes and problem-solving strategies which they use currently, and suggest further strategies to effective writing and problem solving. A student that I tutor will gain not only an answer to the problem of the moment, but an awareness of processes and strategies which will help them to be successful in the future.

Different languages have varying difficulties to learn. One someone says learning a certain language is easy, it would be more accurate to say learning it is easier than many other languages. Learning a second language is not easy. However, it can most certainly be done. Speaking from experience, it is am amazing experience when you learn enough of another language to use it, to make it work for you. It takes a lot of time regardless, but it can take less time depending on how much you put in. Putting in the effort to master Spanish is one of the accomplishments I am most proud of and I would be honored to help bring about that sense of accomplishment in someone else.When it comes to mathematics, it is entirely possible that you won't ever need to know more than basic arithmetic. Nonetheless, learning more advanced math teaches you more advanced problem solving skills. The ability to use what you know to find out more is fundamental to solving almost any problem you may be faced with as well as improving your logical aptitude.I am patient, flexible and attentive. I heavily enjoy teaching both of these subjects and the more determined the student is, the more determined I become.

I am a recent graduate of Colorado College, where I received my Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy. I underwent extensive training to become a writing tutor in college, attaining international tutor certification from the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA), and going on to tutor students in a wide range of subjects. Through Colorado College, I also worked with a local high school to tutor Native American students. I am most passionate about tutoring students in philosophy, English and literature, and I am experienced in tutoring ESL students in both these subjects and others. I also enjoy working with students on their college application essays. I believe that every student has something interesting to say, and it is deeply rewarding to see a student realize this as we work together to craft a personal statement that is persuasive, concise and, most importantly, authentically their own. Over the years, the biggest problem I faced like many of my own private clients have, is that sometimes students don't know what the instructor is expecting from them. This can occur in any classroom and at any level. Students may be referring to unknown expectations of a teacher or a professor about a particular quiz, exam, midterm, essay or even the primary goal of the academic year. My job is to guide each student towards identifying and achieving what the instructor is looking for, and ultimately comprehending those difficult demands. I try to bridge the gap between the student and teacher. My primary goal is to lead to clarity - not further any confusion, difficulty, or frustration. Learning a language is hard enough. I simply guide the student by showing him or her new techniques to study and methods to learn about the Spanish language. This is turn gives the student the ability to achieve his or her individual goals. Moreover, the previous tension and confusion felt by the student begins to lessen with each session. As a personal tutor I hope to advance the development of a student's initial knowledge of the Spanish language into a solid foundation.

First, a little about myself. I grew up on a family farm in rural Illinois surrounded by sisters, goats, and my beloved books. On a whim, I moved to Colorado for college and have continued to pursue my passion for literature in classes, libraries, and, most recently, non-profits.As a tutor, I aim to provide support and knowledge which enables students to apply to their dream colleges and reach beyond other's expectations. I have 8 years of experience in education, with a variety of age groups ranging from elementary to higher education. I worked with the Colorado College Writing Center for four years and I am currently working in a high school teaching Career and College Counseling and writing courses.

My passion for helping students comes from my experience raising three boys, two of whom became lawyers. I enjoyed assisting them with their schoolwork and after that I found a passion for teaching individuals the intricacies of building their investment portfolios with investment properties. What to look for, how to finance and most importantly how to avoid pitfalls. I have given over 300 seminars on financing investment properties and all that goes with owning them. From small groups of 6-30 up to once presenting before 2,500 people. I have also taught many staff how to pass the FINRA Series 7 exam. I went to college at the Franklin College in Lugano, Switzerland and the Colorado College where i achieved a BA. I tutor general finance, real estate finance, mastering the Series 7 and law and accounting for public companies. Quite frankly I enjoy them all equally as they have been in my wheelhouse since I was 21 years old. My teaching style is by example, utilizing real world examples that I have had personally and those of my clients over the years. Outside of academia, I love business, I am a deal junkie. I love looking at and analyzing deals of all types. I also love my dogs and my life in the desert.
