I teach Marketing at Bentley University, Clark University, and UMass-Boston.I tutor subjects across the entire spectrum: sciences and math, Spanish, and also writing, English and social studies.In my tutoring I like to utilize a practical learning style where we use real-life examples. Sometimes I include other forms of media in my teaching which makes it a lot more fun (and relevant).Outside of academic I am a volunteer with various rare disease organizations in the Boston healthcare community. Hi! I have taught high school math in Boston for three years. Most of my experience has been with Algebra 1 and Geometry, but I'm comfortable with all math content up through Calculus. Some of my most enjoyable and rewarding experiences working with students have been helping them with assignments individually during a free period or after school. I have a PhD (Yale) in history and an MBA (UCLA) in finance. I have excellent writing and research skills, and have made extensive use of German and French -- spoken and for research. My work in finance has required skills with mathematics. I have taught university classes in finance and international economics. Another area of much interest, related to my background in history and public policy, is US constitutional law. I published a book on monetary history (*Gold, France, and the Great Depression*) , and a more recent book of essays on topics in economics and diplomatic history (http://books.ksplibrary.org/978-625-7501-75-0/ ) .... I have worked extensively on government-related projects, often in the greater Middle East. Effective tutoring should do more than impart techniques -- it should certainly do that -- it should help a student come away with some interest in and enthusiasm for the topic. I received my undergraduate degree in English at the University of Massachusetts Boston, where I graduated summa cum laude and won the James William Fay Essay Prize for best undergraduate writing for the 2009-2010 school year. I also minored in dance, with a focus on ballet, which I have been teaching for over 10 years. I went on to receive a master's degree in English at Boston College where I studied postcolonial literature and theory, with a specific focus on Anglophone literatures hailing from England, Ireland, and India. Late in the winter of 2003, I left Baylor University for Spain, where I would spend the next semester studying. When I arrived in Madrid, I was unfamiliar with the city and had to rush to catch the bus that would take me to my university, several hours to the north. Confused, tired and not at all proficient in Spanish, I chose the incorrect station. A kind cab driver, noticing my confusion, insisted he accompany me to find my bus. When it was obvious that I had chosen the wrong station, he took me to the correct station and again accompanied me inside to ensure I found my bus. Over the next four months, I repeatedly encountered such kindness and support from the university and community. These advantages helped improve my fluency rapidly and fostered an interest in linguistics and language, enriching my stay with cultural experiences I would not have otherwise had.I moved on from undergraduate study to a Master of Arts in Publishing and Writing at Emerson College, shifting my focus to design and visual interpretation. As I progressed along my professional track in educational publishing, my mind often returned to my time abroad; I chafed at my inability to regularly use the skills and interests that I acquired in undergraduate study. I also felt disconnected from my community and my frequently returned to my education experiences—particularly those in Spain—which were essential in my personal growth. With that in mind, I made the decision to leave the publishing industry and pursue a Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics at the University of Massachusetts, Boston.Ultimately, my degrees will prepare me to work with English Language Learners but I have wide-ranging personal interests and the interdisciplinary degree I received at Baylor University has given me a great foundation for tutoring in a number of subjects. I'm excited about working on students of all ages and levels on reading, writing, literature, and Spanish. I also am interested in helping students develop the organizational habits and study skills essential to academic success.
