I am a graduate of Loyola Marymount University (LMU) in Los Angeles. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Communications with a primary focus on filmmaking and cinematography. I have worn many hats in the film industry including camera and electric departments as an inroads to opportunities in cinematography. I also worked as a photo assistant shooting 35mm, medium and large format for many large profile clients. I eventually chose to pursue cinematography through my own work and allowing my learned knowledge and innate skills speak for themselves. I eventually found my passion for shooting narrative films, both short and long form and have had the good fortune to work with talented directors, actors, producers and others from around the world. Films I shot have been screened at film festivals around the world and one feature film was awarded best cinematography at a NYC film festival. During this time I also utilized my skill and knowledge as a cinematographer to photograph mostly fine art and more recently into portraits and product photography. I created and taught an intro to photography class to traveling students at a photo studio in Manhattan in which the students were able to create and composed their own images by the end of the workshop. I also created and taught an intro to filmmaking class to middle and high school kids in which I guided them through writing a script, shooting and editing the film along with many of the details that are involved in the process. I have loved the work that I do and find myself at a time and place where I want to share my knowledge and experience with others - especially middle and high school kids - who have an interest in pursuing that same passion and love.

I graduated from the University of Southern California with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, and completed some graduate coursework at Loyola Marymount University in order to receive my teaching credential in Biological Sciences. I have experience both as a tutor, working with high school students in AP Chemistry, and a classroom teacher, working with middle school students in Life & Physical Sciences. I have a broad range of subjects that I am comfortable tutoring in, ranging from English and essay editing to Algebra and middle school math. But I am most passionate (and get most geeked out about) teaching science, especially topics in Biology and Life Science, because I love learning about how our living world works! My teaching philosophy revolves around students harnessing their strengths to become independent learners, and my job is to facilitate making those connections. Outside of education, I love spending time outdoors and doing yoga (a combination of both would be ideal!).

As an education enthusiast, I am dedicated to the process of learning through interactive efforts. I believe in a holistic approach that incorporates the various learning styles of auditory, visual, kinesthetic and those (like myself) that must physically feel the pen hit the paper. I am fun, friendly, and passionate about helping students succeed and gain confidence in subjects they may have felt uneasy about previously.

I have received my Bachelor of Arts in Multimedia with a focus in image and minor in Business Administration from Loyola Marymount University. Currently, I am working to get my Masters in Secondary Education, also from LMU. In addition to my Masters, I hope to earn my Teaching Credentials as well. As an undergrad, I tutored for the Academic Resource Center on campus for about two years; I have worked one-on-one with students as well as worked with a group of up to 15 students. In addition to this, I mentored for CollegeSpring, a SAT prep program, during the summer after graduation. At the end of the summer, my student's average scores increased by 200-300 points.Because I was an art major in college, I am a bit out of practice when it comes to Pre-Calculus and such, but math was my best subject in school and I can pick it up again quickly as I have seen in my experience with CollegeSpring. Math is my favorite subject because solving problems is like solving a puzzle; there are many ways to go about finding the solution but, at least for this level of math, there is only one answer. The subjects I feel the most confident tutoring are SAT Math, Algebra or below, Public Speaking, and Essay Editing/ Writing. From my experience as both a student and a tutor, I find that the best way to teach students is to leave the pen/pencil in their hands for at least 90% of the time. Although it is vital to give examples and work through problems together, the tutor's job is not to give answers and simply show how problems are done. This may cause students to memorize techniques rather than learn the critical thinking process that allows them to do work on their own. I strongly believe that my job as a tutor is to ask the student questions that will assist them to arrive at an answer on their own. Of course, examples need to be given and I may give more help in the beginning, but the goal is to ween students off help after time. I cannot stand over their shoulder during tests or be there as they go through college so they must learn how to approach work on their own.Outside of work and school, I enjoy cooking, exercise, and drawing. The way food affects our mood, body, and health intrigues me- which is why I love cooking. In addition to food, a healthy mind and body must have proper exercise. While I may not be the best when it comes to running, I have started weight training and am looking for other ways to get cardio into my routine which includes hikes. Drawing, however, remains my passion. While it is time consuming and I do not have as much time for it as I used to, I love figure drawing, impressionist painting, and illustrating cartoons.

I attended Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas for high school where I graduated with honors and then moved out to California to attend Loyola Marymount University to continue what the Jesuits like to refer to as "Cura Personalis" or "Education of the Whole Person." At LMU I majored in English Literature, but I also had the opportunity to engage in creative writing of all types and flavors including but not limited to poetry, fictional prose, playwriting, and various forms of journalism. I minored in Archaeology, which blended my love of history with my passion for anthropology. I acted as the Assistant Curator at LMU's on campus museum, which grew during my tenure by 60% in terms of donations and acquisitions. As the Curator I had the opportunity to give lectures and tutor college-aged students in history, art, architecture, and historical preservation. I graduated Loyola Marymount University with honors, and decided to attend Southwestern Law School. At Southwestern, I specialized in criminal law, labor law, civil procedure, and constitutional law. I graduated Southwestern, attained my Juris Doctor, and sat for the California Bar Exam in July. Above all things, I prize academic prowess and the desire to learn and master more. As such, I chose a career in which I know I can act as a constant student and a constant teacher. Such a level of dedication is required, in fact, because the law is fluid and in a constant state of flux.I tutor in history, English literature of all types (writing, reading comprehension, analytical thinking), government, and politics. Throughout my educational and professional career I have been regarded as an exceptional writer. I have actually had the opportunity to edit many publications which have appeared in print as well as online. As such, I am adept at aiding students in how to be their own editors and how to see the gaps in their writing and where they need improvement. My favorite subject to tutor is history. I especially love world history. My hobbies include keeping physically active. I love to play basketball and beach volleyball. I enjoy playing golf, but I'm not very good. Golf is an activity which I picked up in my adult life. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. I also enjoy watching movies, reading good books, hiking, cooking, and generally keeping an open mind. I constantly find new activities that I enjoy.

I am a graduate of Loyola Marymount University. I received my Bachelor of Science in Biology and played four years of Division 1 soccer. I will be attending medical school in Fall 2019 at Creighton University. With 7 years of tutoring under my belt, 4 of which included working as a peer tutor for LMU Athletics, I have developed a strong passion for assisting others inside and out of the classroom to reach successful academic goals. I believe having a strong foundation in education is important for future success in our careers and relationships. As a STEM major, I have focused on tutoring in math and sciences as I enjoy working through problems with my students in an engaging manner and finding which methods work for them. Along with tutoring, I am a licensed EMT and perform clinical oncology research for UCLA. In my spare time, I enjoy running, working out, reading, and playing soccer.

My experience with tutoring stems back to my high schools days, where I would work in the language lab to help my peers increase their proficiency with Spanish and French. After graduating from high school with my IB diploma, I attended New York University, where I majored in Politics and Spanish. I then attended Loyola Marymount University where I received my master's degree in Urban Education. I have worked in education for the past 6 years, beginning as a 2012 Teach For America corps member in Los Angeles. I have taught nearly every subject in middle school classrooms, and I have taught both biology and algebra to high schoolers. My favorite subjects to tutor are mathematics and Spanish, as I find them to be the most engaging, but I enjoy and can help with nearly all content areas. When I was in school, I was (and still am!) a self-described "nerd" who really enjoyed expanding my knowledge base and taking on academic challenges. I hope to impart the idea that tackling new concepts can be fun and rewarding at the same time. Additionally, as a generally "good test taker," I enjoy helping students hone their test taking skills to achieve optimal results. When I am not tutoring, I enjoy running, listening to music, a game of tennis, or a good TV-binge session.
