I've been helping students and friends to edit and revise their writing across multiple styles for seven years. Throughout high school, I was part of an exclusive magnet school for creative writing called the Educational Center for the Arts: in the mornings I took core classes (math, science, history, etc) at a public high school, and in the afternoons I attended college-level workshops in fiction, screenplay, memoir, humor, and poetry. There, I learned from published writers and edited fellow students' pieces, including college essays, for four years while developing my own work.In college, I became the opinion section editor of my student newspaper. Last year, I served as its editor in chief. At The Justice, I've applied the skills I learned from creative writing to journalism and op-ed content. I already had experience clarifying sentences, helping writers develop a unique written voice, and keeping writing concise and precise, but through The Justice I learned how to find and support a strong argument, recognize logical fallacies in one's own thinking as well as in others, and conduct thorough, accurate and credible research. I also learned the AP's grammatical style guides inside and out, though remain a devotee of the Oxford comma.While most of my work in tutoring specifically has been with middle and high school-age students, I've also worked with younger students as a summer camp counselor and a teaching assistant. I have been tutoring for seven years, and from my experience, I have learned that you can truly get students to love subjects if you can break them down and explain them simply. My favorite subject to tutor is middle school reading because it's fun to discover breakthroughs in understanding. I also love tutoring music which is a deep passion of mine and something I have studied and pursued independently for 15+ years. Outside of academics, I love playing tennis, creating music, and cooking with friends and family. I am patient, encouraging, and many have shared easy to learn with so I really look forward to working with you!

I am a sophomore at Brandeis University located in Waltham, MA. I am currently majoring in Chemistry with a minor in Statistics and am on a Pre-Med track. I grew up just outside of Boston in a Russian immigrant family. I grew up speaking Russian and learning math with family as a means of communication and bonding. I developed a passion for problem-solving and learning from a young age which followed me into my teen years.

I graduated from Brandeis University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology on the pre-optometry track. During my undergraduate studies, I had the opportunity to engage in diverse research projects, including the effects of a sunscreen chemical on breast cancer progression and the relationship between diet and teen depression. Additionally, I frequently traveled to my home country of Sudan, where I volunteered in local hospitals and clinics, shadowing optometrists and other medical professionals. This experience ignited my passion for optometry, leading me to pursue a career as an eye doctor.Alongside my commitment to optometry, I have a strong passion for teaching. I teach a variety of subjects, including biology, general chemistry, organic chemistry, physics, and the OAT/DAT admissions test. As an organic chemistry teaching assistant, I emphasized pattern recognition and effective study techniques, earning awards and recognition for my teaching methods. I believe that failure only occurs when one stops trying, so I strive to create an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and thinking creatively.I am excited to continue tutoring as I continue my journey to Optometry School at New England College of Optometry.

Hi! My name is Alice Gong, (in case you couldn't read that), and I'm a current student at Brandeis University. I've always enjoyed helping other people, whether it be through volunteering, donating, or in this case, tutoring! I've tutored a bunch of friends in the past with math or science, as well as a bunch of children in subjects such as clarinet or math. I love spreading knowledge to people around me.On my free time, I love music, listening (Kpop and instrumental), or playing (clarinet, piano). I grew up in Denver, CO and I am currently a junior at Brandeis University in Waltham, MA where I study Biology and Public Health. After college, I hope to attend medical school and become an OB/GYN. School was always challenging for me. I had poor reading comprehension and I really struggled with math. No matter how hard I worked, sometimes the material just would not click. I worked with my teachers and tutors who helped me overcome many of my learning barriers. I have been tutoring students for 6+ years in all academic and organizational areas. I am patient, kind, understanding, and willing to take the time that each student needs to understand a concept. I understand school work does not come naturally for everyone, and I am here to help you through whatever might be challenging you. I'm from Philadelphia by way of Boston where I attended Brandeis University for Music Composition and Psychology. I am a musician and composer by trade, and I play saxophone, guitar, and piano (and I teach lessons in all 3!). Most recently, I've been involved in social work with people diagnosed with mental illnesses. Throughout college and during my 4 years in social work, I tutored individuals of all ages and abilities. During that time, I learned that anyone is capable of learning any subject they want. In addition, with the assistance of the right teacher, they are able to find a way to relate to the material on a more personal level. I believe that my role as a tutor is to guide a student to understand the material, while it is the student's job to remember and understand that process in order to use that material in the future. My schedule is flexible, and I am open to twice weekly sessions if you need help before a big paper or test. I hope to work with you soon!
