Certified Tutor
I received my college education in three different states, providing me with a variety of learning experiences. Most recently, I completed my PhD in cellular and molecular medicine. I had the opportunity to be part of a unique PhD program in which I studied at the University of Arizona, but did my research at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD.
My tutoring experience is broad and I have experience tutoring children as young as 8 and adults as old as 40. I have tutored multiple subjects but my favorites include science, reading, and writing. I have always had a passion for knowledge and I enjoy sharing that with others. I like to tailor my tutoring style to each individual student. We all learn differently and we are all motivated differently. Some students need help memorizing material while others need help learning how to focus and be efficient. I believe it is my job as a tutor to find the best method for each individual.
Besides creating scientific experiments and sharing my love for knowledge, I really enjoy being outdoors. I am involved in team sports. Most recently I was on a womens flag football team, which I enjoyed immensely. I also devote time to mentoring elementary-age children with behavioral problems.

What is your teaching philosophy?
Teaching is a holistic process and not only embodies gaining knowledge, but learning mindfulness and efficiency. It is critical that students are able to make connections between the material they just learned, and the world around them. I strive to challenge my students without making them feel overwhelmed.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
In the first session, it is important that I assess the student's feelings towards the subject they are studying. Most students require tutoring because they are uncomfortable with the subject matter. I find that once we address the emotions involved, they are much more open to learning. It is also important for me to understand their learning style so that I can tailor my tutoring to their needs.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I help students become independent learners by teaching them tools to learn. Mindfulness and focus are key factors to being successful in any subject.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I believe that motivation is different for every individual. It is important for me to address what motivates my students and what their ultimate goals are. It is also important to track our progress so that the student is motivated by their own success.
