I have a wide variety of interests and experiences accumulated over the last decade of actively pursuing my education and numerous professional experiences.
I have a bachelor's degree in History and a minor in Portuguese from Brigham Young University (2023). I also have additional training and experience in social science education.
My favorite job to date has been as a professional Portuguese interpreter in Provo, Utah, interpreting instructional classes, private interviews, medical appointments, and more interactions from English to Portuguese for over 50 native Portuguese speakers from Brazil, Portugal, Angola, Cabo Verde, and Mozambique over the course of a 2 year period.
My passion is language (Spanish, Portuguese, Latin, and English), but truly I enjoy working with all fields of study (with a sweet spot for history, of course)!
I have worked as a substitute teacher in Utah for grades K-12, as well as a Social Sciences and language tutor. I have worked as a history teaching assistant, teaching 3 weekly classes to 56 students and leading 3 more weekly reviews to another 60-150 students each week at BYU in the American history, economics, and political theory class called American Heritage. I have also taught over 30 weekly English classes over the course of 6 months to non-English speakers in Brazil, class size generally ranging from 15-45 students from ages 11 to 75; I was a private Portuguese tutor for 4 months, bringing my Spanish-speaking student from nearly no knowledge of Portuguese to being conversational; and I was an editing intern for 4 months for the Riga Ghetto and Latvian Holocaust Museum, editing and revising the final 145 pages of a historical text translated from German to Russian to English.
I believe that in education, the most important element is not the lesson but the learner.
Every student (of any age) has a unique set of strengths and needs, and thus each student deserves a teacher who values not simply the subject matter but the students themselves. On top of it all, education is one of the surest ways to advance oneself and ensure maximum progress and satisfaction in life.
As a result, I am dedicated to bringing the highest level of attention and sincerity to my engagements with students as a reciprocation of their own dedication and diligence. Though I can tutor a number of subjects, my favorites are English grammar, essay construction, Latin, Spanish, and Portuguese. Outside of tutoring, I enjoy reading, writing, talking, hiking, singing, crocheting, and playing as much tennis as possible!
