Example Question #141 : Data Analysis And Probability
Order these four decimals from least to greatest:
None of the other responses are correct.
To order these four negative numbers from least to greatest, we first order their (positive) absolute values from greatest to least.
The tenths digits are all 6, so we can compare the hundredths digits; if there is a tie, we can compare their thousandths digits. The absolute values fall in this order:
The original numbers, therefore, fall in this order:
Example Question #141 : Data Analysis And Probability
Jackie and her mom are baking cookies. They made a table with the recipe to show the ingredients for 1, 2, and 3 dozen cookies.
Number of Cookies |
Eggs |

9 cups |
4.5 cups |
3 tsp |
How many cups of flour will they need for 3 dozen cookies?
Using the table to find the information, first look at the column "Number of Cookies" to find the last row "3 dozen." Then, find the column "Flour" and follow it down to the last row where it shows 9 cups.
Jackie will need 9 cups of flour to make 3 dozen cookies.

Use the table to answer the question. If 4 ants have 12 body parts, how many body parts do 6 ants have?
Use the first row in the table to determine how many body parts 1 ant has. Since 1 ant has 3 body parts, you will need to multiply 6(ants) by 3(body parts).
6 ants have 18 body parts.
Another way to solve would be to add up the body parts of each of the six ants.

Use the table to answer the question. If 3 giraffes have 12 legs, how many legs do 4 giraffes have?
Use the first row in the table to determine how many legs 1 giraffe has. Since 1 giraffe has 4 legs, you will need to multiply 4(giraffes) by 4(legs each).
The 4 giraffes have 16 legs.
You can also add the legs of 4 single giraffes by making 4 groups of 4.
oooo + oooo + oooo + oooo = 16

Use the table to answer the question. If 4 giraffes have 8 ears, how many ears do 7 giraffes have?
Use the first row in the table to determine how many ears 1 giraffe has. Since 1 giraffe has 2 ears, you will need to multiply 7(giraffes) by 2(ears).
7 giraffes have 14 ears altogether.
You can also solve by adding the ears of each giraffe together, making 7 groups of 2.
oo + oo + oo + oo + oo + oo + oo = 14
Example Question #1 : How To Find The Answer From A Table
Which student got the third highest math test score?
Sheniqua
Bessie
Johnny
Brayden
Kayla
Bessie
Kayla got the highest score (99), followed by Brayden with the second highest (92), and then Bessie with the third highest (86). Sheniqua got the fourth highest (83), and Johnny got the lowest (71).
Example Question #2 : How To Find The Answer From A Table
What is the average temperature of the five cities on August 21st?
89
93
100
79
84
89
To find the average, we need to add all of the temperatures together, and then divide by the number of total temperatures (which is five).
Example Question #143 : Data Analysis And Probability
Which two students share the same favorite ice cream and favorite juice?
Mikey and Taylor
Chloe and Taylor
Quinn and Jonas
Chloe and Taylor
Mikey and Chloe
Mikey and Taylor
To answer this question, look at the two columns and see which two students pick the same answer to favorite ice cream and favorite juice. Both Mikey and Taylor selected vanilla as their favorite ice cream flavor and apple juice as their favorite juice!
Example Question #144 : Data Analysis And Probability
Mrs. Feeney asked five of her 4th grade students about their favorite ice cream and juice. According to the table, which ice cream flavor is chosen most often by the students?
Chocolate Chip
Strawberry
Vanilla
Chocolate
Rocky Road
Vanilla
Under the Favorite Ice Cream column, we see that 3 students picked vanilla (Mikey, Jonas, & Taylor), 1 picked chocolate chip (Quinn), and 1 picked strawberry (Chloe). Based on that, vanilla is the favorite flavor.
