A Proud Accomplishment of Mine by Tracey - December 2016 Scholarship Essay

Each person's accomplishments can differ. For me I am the most proud of getting over my fear of public speaking. To a lot of people they may say that that isn't an accomplishment. But I can beg to differ. People who have never had a fear of public speaking can never really understand what it is like to be afraid of standing in front of a small crowd of classmates.

Since my freshmen year I have worked with my teachers at getting over my fear of public speaking. While now I still have it I can now go in front of my classmates and give a presentation without feeling like I am going to cry or faint. This all was possible due to my freshmen year english teacher Ms.Hogue; Ms. Hogue pushed me to keep trying to try and get over my fear. She knew that I could do it and I thank her now for pushing me farther than I thought I could go.

As a teacher, Ms.Hogue believed that by doing a lot of presentations in class that anybody with a public speaking fear could get passed it. She started by having everybody write a summary about the book that they are currently reading and present it to the class in a way that makes them want to read it. As the year went on she kept doing this, I never understood why until I asked her on the last day of school. Her response was,"I believed that somebody like you with a fear of public speaking can get over it with a routine of speaking in front of people and I have seen not only you but a few of your classmates become more and more commfortable with speaking." None of this would of been possible without Ms.Hogue's help she helped me open the door to so many possibilities.

Now because of her help I am going into college to get a degree in education. Never in my wildest dreams would of imagined that a person who is afraid of public speaking going to get a degree in education. And I plan on using my accomplishment to help teach kids whether elementary age or high school that you don't have to fear public speaking at all just believe that you can do it and you will go far.
