The Next Chapter by Kemia - August 2025 Scholarship Essay

I envision my senior year as an opportunity to push myself to my fullest potential—a year dedicated to challenging myself physically, academically, and personally. I’m committed to becoming more self-disciplined while strengthening my leadership skills. Cheerleading has been my passion since I was three years old, and one of my biggest goals is to earn a spot on a college cheer team. This means devoting my free time to advancing my stunting skills, building strength, and perfecting my tumbling passes. At the same time, I know my future cannot be secured through athletic success alone; I must excel academically to gain acceptance into a competitive college that will challenge me and shape my future.

Meeting new people and exploring new environments excites me. I dream of attending a large, spirited university with engaging student activities and exciting sporting events. My college list includes Louisiana State University, University of Miami, University of South Florida, and Florida State University; schools that are competitive and will push me to grow. To prepare, I’ve invested significant time into studying for the SAT, including weekly sessions in a small-group cram course led by a tutor.

Currently, I serve as head captain of my high school cheer program, a role that has deepened my leadership skills and my appreciation for teamwork. To prepare for the collegiate level, I attend weekly cheer classes, practice new stunts, and participate in college cheer clinics where I can both showcase my abilities and learn from experienced coaches and athletes. These clinics also allow me to adapt to different coaching styles and connect with college cheerleaders, giving me insight into the dedication and discipline required at the next level.

This year marks a turning point; a transition from who I am now to who I aspire to become. Through my dedication to cheer, academics, and personal growth, I’m building the discipline, determination, and resilience that will guide me beyond high school. Cheerleading has already taught me the value of hard work and leadership, but this year I plan to take those lessons further. My senior year is more than a final chapter of high school; it’s a launchpad toward the future I’m determined to create.
