Tell the Story by Theresa - December 2016 Scholarship Essay

"And the third show is... Northwest Rankin High School!" I had been waiting for four months to hear those words. When I joined the theatre production class at my school, I knew that we would go far. We had rehearsed what felt like every day and had five performances open to the public. When we first read our show, we all felt attached to it. We had all connected to different characters in the story and were excited to audition for a role. When the audition processes was over, it was up to our director to choose our roles, and she couldn’t have picked better people. They way we interact with each other is almost unexplainable. We act as if we known each other for our whole lives. We are accepting of everyone and make everyone feels included and welcome. I couldn't have found a better group of people to share my time and effort with.
Then came the North Mississippi High School Drama Festival. This was the moment that we had all been waiting for. We had worked our buts off in class and after school for months trying to make everything perfect, and it had all come down to forty-five minutes. We all knew our roles and what was expected of us. One of my favorite pieces of advice was when my theatre director told me, "You have the information, you have put your whole heart into this. Trust yourself and others, and most importantly, tell the story." We left everything we had on that stage. I don’t think we had a better performance than that day, and to have it all pay off in the end was a dream come true. After all that we had committed to making this show great, we advanced to MTA. We even brought home an All Star Cast award, that I won, Best Supporting Actress, and Best Technical Achievement. I am so proud of everything that we have done as a team and I know that we will continue to great in the future.
