A New Year of Smarter Decision Making by Taylor - January 2016 Scholarship Essay

For this new year of 2016 I want it to be one that specifically involves the bettering of myself, education, and a year full of positivity. Every year we make New Years’ resolutions in hopes of improving ourselves and families . Whether it’s to eat healthier, save money,be kinder to others, or simply smile more; nine times out of ten we do not remain true to these resolutions. I am firmly committed to my 2016 resolution and strongly believe that it will help me become a better and more proactive student. My 2016 resolution is to make wiser and smarter decisions. This resolution will help me become a better student by being a constant reminder to remain on track and remember who I am as a person.

So many students enter college with their heads on straight yet by the end of the semester it is spinning in all different directions. In college there is so much to do and so many things to get involved in, that we often choose to do at the cost of our studies. By remaining focused and unbothered to the decisions of my friends and peers I wholeheartedly believe the upcoming semester will be more productive and rewarding. This resolution is not to say that I am easily influenced, it is just to say that I need to achieve better skill in smart decision making as well as keeping my priorities in order.

It is one thing to make a decision and there is another in determining which is the smarter decision. By making smarter decisions and following my instincts I will be able to remain focused and motivated in achieving my goals and being the best student I can. Instincts have played a major role in this past fall semester and I often found myself choosing to ignore them, which was not the best decision. Just by making smarter decisions so many opportunities can open up, and there will be so much more time and energy to put towards my studies. I’ve also learned to always trust myself, and the morals and values instilled in me. To have a foundation and strong understanding of who I am, where I come from, and the kind of person I want to be will always be with me. It is my motivation to make smarter decisions and devote all my attention on successfully furthering my education. I am very excited for this fresh start of the new year, and semester and look forward to thoroughly thinking before every decision as well as trusting my instincts. The two keys to my upcoming successful college school year.
