New Year, New Lists by Suzanna - January 2016 Scholarship Essay
It is really easy to get caught up – papers, games, tests, parties. Everywhere you look, there is something going on. Throughout my high school career, I’ve learned how easy it is, when in the midst of a whirlpool of demanding activities, to be crushed trying to carry the weights of a challenging course load, time consuming extracurricular involvement, exhausting athletics, and a blossoming social life. As the New Year approached and since it has arrived, I’ve found myself asking one question over and over again – how am I supposed to manage it all?
That seems to be a question I’ve been asking myself for as long as I remember. Dissatisfied with the seemingly eternal battle among the components of my busy schedule, I’ve decided to make a change this year. I’m going to write it all down. Everything. Each deadline, event, test, practice, and everything in between.
Some people, when faced with a strenuous calendar, begin dropping obligations left and right, trying desperately to regain control of their lives. All of the arduous tasks on my plate, however, are what I find enjoyment in. I love my hectic schedule and can’t imagine anything different, so why should I force myself to lighten the load I choose to carry when I enjoy carrying it? That’s why, this year, I’m not going to drop anything. I know I can take on everything I go after, it’s just a matter of attentive scheduling, a skill I plan to excel at this year.
