Ten Years by Sumeya - December 2015 Scholarship Essay
People are always wondering about other people’s future plans. As a senior in high school, I am very used to hearing these questions. What am I doing with my life? There are many options and wonderful opportunities out there, but which ones are for me?
Ten years is quite a long time. I’m only seventeen, and I am supposed to have everything figured out at this point, or so it seems. A short, but major, part of my plan includes college. I have already been accepted and committed to The University of Oklahoma. For the longest time, I have wanted to be a doctor. Then one day, I realized I am easily disgusted and can’t even stand the sight of blood; therefore, there is no chance I could be a doctor. I began searching my options, and I have decided to be an Ultrasound Tech. The University of Oklahoma is the only school in the state that offers a degree program for Ultrasound, and that was my deciding factor.
I am concurrently enrolled, so I should have an entire year of basics done by the time I reach OU. My goal is to graduate in three years with a degree and be ready to begin my career at age twenty. Graduating college as fast as I can is important to me because I want to get started on building my future. Putting savings back early so my kids won’t have to worry about paying for college is a huge priority. I would hate for a future child of mine to miss a college opportunity because it was unaffordable.
After I graduate college, I plan to stay around the Norman area. I would like to live on a country road with plenty of land, yet still be a short drive to the city. A small and simple house would be fine at first. Hopefully, I’ll be in a serious relationship, on my way to get married, and having children. Then once my family grows, a bigger home would be the next step to take.
A successful life is what I’m searching and striving for. A college degree, successful job, beautiful home, and a happy family all sound like a good plan to me. Maybe everything goes as I hope, maybe nothing does. Whatever challenges come my way, I’m sure I’ll figure it out. Ten years is a long time, and although I don’t know what the world may bring, I can still dream of it.
