Bettering Myself and My Social Life by Sofia - December 2016 Scholarship Essay

My biggest school accomplishment was being more sociable, and confident. I have been through many extreme forms of bullying for the past 12 years. It has been a roller coaster, and I had many troubles with myself. I developed anxiety and PTSD from the school bullying. For years I sheltered myself from my surroundings and did not participate in anything, except for dancing. I was a great kid, but could cover my troubles behind a simple smile. I felt that academics were my focal point. During certain points in my life, my grades have dropped from A's, to mostly C's. It was not like me, and I knew I had to raise above and make myself a better person.
During my high school years, there has been extreme bullying issues that had brought me to my lowest, but that did not stop me this time. I joined many clubs and now I am the President of one of the biggest clubs in school. I joined the soccer team and got on the Varsity team my first year. I taught myself piano. I learn by ear, I can not read music, and many people call me a prodigy, but playing piano is what helps me focus on whats important. I have been taking college credit classes at my high school to further my academics. I also tutor many students at my high school to help them with their academic struggles. I am apart of many boards in the town. And I have over 600 hours of community service. I love helping out the community and being part of events.
Also, I am going on my fourth year with the Johnston Police Explorers Program. I want to get my doctoral degree in Criminal Justice and Psychology to become a Forensic Psychologist, or other known as an behavior analysis. My goal for my future is to join the FBI and be a behavior analysis. I want to make a difference and do what I truly enjoy.
If I had not better myself and set goals for me, I would not have met the amazing people I have met. I believe that everything that someone is going through, there is a light at the end of the tunnel, and once you get there, its great. I opened my eyes to see what is actually important. I am extremely proud of who I have become;a great leader and role model to others.
