Gender Education Opportunities by Samantha - November 2015 Scholarship Essay

As a female teenager living in the United States, the aspect of education that I am the most thankful for is the fact that I have the opportunity to be educated. I am grateful that my education has allowed me to see past my small world and to understand that not all females my age have this chance. Ignorance, in this case, is foolish bliss.
It breaks my heart that females in certain parts of our world are prohibited from greatening themselves, and in turn society, by not being permitted for their knowledge to grow. We gain so much more from an education than just an understanding of numbers and words. We gain self-worth, purpose, and greater sense of the world we live in. Attending school provides important social skills and awareness that no other situation can provide us with. We learn how to deal with stressful situations and leadership skills that prepare us for promising futures.
I am also thankful that my learning environment is one that I feel safe and comfortable in because a lack of a safe environment impacts the quality of education overall. I hope that one day my response to this question will be that I am thankful that all females in this world have the opportunity to obtain a great quality of education and that their limit is that of their own ambition, and not the restriction put on them by others.
