New York by Ryan - December 2016 Scholarship Essay

As a two sport athlete and a Type 1 Diabetic, there are many challenges that I encounter during school days. Having a low blood sugar, having to adjust my Insulin, having to go to the nurse during and then missing some of the lessons and having to turn around and be ready for a 3 hour practice. All of this could be obstacles that would prevent me from being successful with my grades. Instead I have met them head on. I have been successful in playing both Basketball and Baseball. Have played up every year and have been a captain for the teams I am on. I have been successful in raising money and awareness for a Cure for Type 1 and my biggest accomplishment at school has been the fact that I have made Honor Roll my Freshmen year and High Honor Roll every grading period there after. I am incredibly proud of to be a Student Athlete especially with all the pressures as both a teenager and a Type 1 Diabetic.

As a senior, you hear all the time how students " take the year off." Well not me. I have taken a challenging schedule with includes 2 college level courses. One of which I am taking now and averaging a 95%. I believe that meeting and exceeding these challenges will help me as I move on to college.
