10 years down the road by Romal - December 2015 Scholarship Essay
Looking down the road and into my future, I envision myself sitting in front of a sea of high school students teaching the wonderful English language. I’ll have class after class reading dozens of classic novels and discussing their importance and the beauty behind them. I’ll have a creative writing class where my students can have fun and express themselves in different ways. As a staff member, I’ll be a part of as many school improvement committees as possible to learn every aspect of the school system and how I can improve upon my own teaching techniques. Understanding a job from every aspect and being well-rounded is extremely important for me to follow my path to a successful future.
In addition to being an English teacher, I also plan to be a high school track coach. I have been a team captain of several different sports. I was selected because I am very motivational and I have a genuine desire to help athletes reach their goals. Running is a passion of mine and I have many experiences to share with young runners. I have participated in a wide variety of sports throughout my junior high and high school years and have a solid understanding of the strategies needed to help motivate and train student athletes to be successful.
A solid education will help me achieve my goals by expanding upon what my high school teachers have started teaching and I will continue to gain practical knowledge specific to my career path. Having a college education will help improve my communication techniques, which I will use in meetings, interviews, and in classrooms I will be teaching in. Also, a degree will give me the confidence that is necessary for most professional careers. A college education will give me more experience with coworkers, and having more experience will help me to be better suited to work with other adults. Knowing how to work well with others is extremely import in a job where there needs to be a connection between the teacher and student.
