Success Behind the Doors by Rileigh - December 2016 Scholarship Essay

One of my school accomplishments is founding the Creative Writing Club. I wanted students to come to a place where they can spread ideas and be in a safe environment where they can express what they write. The students that stay after every week, have showed the different genres and different views in what they write. The pieces that get passed around or presented are inspiring as well. I am one of those people who have been inspired by these students. I inspire them only for them to inspire me. The inspiration that gets passed around is great because it opens up everyone's writing skills. Giving them another point of view to write in. You're learning without realizing what you're taking in from your peers.
Another benefit of the Creative Writing club, is that it gives a person time to write away from home. Students have homework and other responsibilities that take up time, leaving pieces of writing unfinished. Creative Writing is a place where students can write for an hour, make corrections on a piece, maybe even complete unfinished work, or read a peers work. This hour of extra time always gets used wisely. I could write another chapter of a book or maybe 5 different pieces of poetry in that hour away from home.
One of the other benefits that I love about the Creative Writing club is that it teaches students how to interact and be social. The club allows you to do group projects and how to bounce ideas between different people. The group projects or partner works lets you gain trust with people. It also helps students who work together come to agreements and how to intertwine each others writing differences to make an amazing story or piece. It's like constructive feedback on how to improve or to take the writing into a different direction. It's a friendly and comfortable environment. There is not an appointed leader or head of the club either. Everyone gets a say; plus there is a teacher who is always there to answer questions or to help a student.
The Creative Writing club is a second home in a way. You're having an amazing time with other students which helps friendships to grow. There are tons of amazing ideas as to what we can do to also improve with the club. Right now, everyone is working on short stories to take to an open mic to present to different people. That's something exciting and a new challenge to look forward too. As I leave the club behind after graduation, more students will come to express their words on paper. "The pen is mightier than a sword." This quote is true. A persons words can do more to a person that anything physical. It's the words that will echo in deepest spaces in our heads. Never getting out, these words are what influences us to be the people we are, to think the way we think, to do the things we do. Positive or negative, the things that get put on paper create not only a character or a story, but new beginnings and new ideas for the reader.
