Resolution for the future by Rashanna - January 2016 Scholarship Essay
In my life, I was brought up with values and belief to guide me throughout my lifetime. I believe my values have taught me to see the good in people and to treat each person fairly. I grew up with the understanding of equality from my parents because my grandparents instill this in them. My grandparents shared memories of their lives living in the South. They explained the difficult obstacles they had to face as part of segregation. It is through their stories I learned that life is an obstacle but it also a journey.
As a person who comes from a family of law enforcement, I have learned that each individual has their own story which has given me the support to meet this point in my life. My teachers have always pointed the importance of education. They pushed me to do my absolute best and helped me to mature more and more every day. The advice given to me by both my teachers and parents has guided me through my school years.
With the New Year, I have a resolution is to become the next generation of leaders. I want to guide individuals to become successful people for our country. We live in a country which allows us to be anything we want to be. I want to teach and share with other countries the meaning of peace. They need to overcome their disagreement with our country and negotiate to better life. I believe if my grandparents were able to overcome their struggle which is why I am ready to face my own challenges in order to succeed as a leader. I am motivated to accomplish my resolution through my college education and my values.
