Plans for the Future by Mason - December 2015 Scholarship Essay
Ten years from today I will, hopefully, have a degree in electrical and computer engineering and a job in the space industry. Although it will be a tough road, exploring space is a dream of mine that cannot be extinguished. I will use my education to get into a nice college, then I will find an entry level job after college, and, if all goes well, I will be able to find a job at NASA, Boeing, SpaceX, or a similar space company.
The first hoop to jump through is college admissions. I have currently submitted a couple, but only time can tell what will happen. After I get into a college I will become a sponge. I will soak up everything that I possibly can because I will need all of the knowledge that I can muster. After I obtain by bachelor’s or master’s degree, I will begin my job search.
The next step, finding employment, can be a nightmare. I have heard the horror stories–no college graduates are finding employment. If I am fortunate, finding employment will be easy. My education will certainly assist the job hunt, and the skills that are provided by college internships may be what makes me stand out. After I find employment, I will learn from my superiors until I know I am capable of something more.
The final and most important step is landing a job in the space industry. This is the field of work that I wish to be in the most and the field that I believe is the most important for humanity. Working in the space industry will allow me to develop new ways to explore the cosmos and help push humanity into a new era. With a resume full of education and experience finding a good job in this field should not be an issue.
Although I am unsure of my abilities, I believe that I can achieve these goals in under ten years. My education and experiences will definitely help me get there, but there is no guarantee that I will land the job that I am looking for. Honestly, as long as I am not a bum on the streets in ten years I will be more than happy.
