High School Extracurricular Activities Mandatory by Maryann - October 2015 Scholarship Essay

Many high school students are not involved in extracurricular activities. They are not involved in any clubs, dances, school events, or any out of school activities. This makes them less active and lazier. Instead of being involved in activities, they spend hours on their phone or doing other unnecessary things. Having to do extracurricular activities should be a high school graduation requirement.
Making extracurricular activities a requirement will help the students get their minds off of negative things. It will open many different opportunities as they get older. For example, if a high school student wants to become a teacher, so they decide to tutor elementary students, they will have experience dealing with students. Having experience will also give students a higher chance in pursuing what they want to do in life. Being involved in extracurricular activities will also help the students become more social and open minded to try new things.
Lastly, students should be required to do a minimum of extracurricular activities because many colleges and universities look more than just grades. Schools would love to see that the student is involved in many activities so that the colleges get a better idea of whom and what the student is capable of doing. This makes the student stand out and let everyone know what makes them different from the rest of the students competing to get into the university.
