touching lives through education by Maria - December 2015 Scholarship Essay

Ten years from now I see myself finishing medical school at the University Of Chapel Hill North Carolina and becoming a medical intern. I will be doing this in order to reach my ultimate goal of becoming a pediatric missionary. To reach my long term goal I have many short-term educational goals. Some of my short-term educational goals are to master the material in my advanced health science classes at school. Another goal I have is to attend my school’s medical camp every summer and to become a summer volunteen at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. I hope to learn from these medical experiences and see glimpses of what life as a medical professional would be like. My senior year of high school I hope to become a Certified Nursing Assistant in order to get patient contact hours for medical school. I hope to graduate at the top of my class. I will do this by taking challenging classes that require critical and analytical thinking skills and by mastering the material in those classes. By fulfilling my short term goals I hope to accomplish my long term goal of being accepted into and receiving my medical education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
My education will help me become a medical missionary because I will be able to apply the information I will have and will have learned in my high school and college classes in the medical emergencies I may encounter. By obtaining education and working hard in school, I will not only be benefiting myself but will also be benefiting the lives I touch in the developing countries I will help. I hope to teach the children in these countries the importance of simple things that have big impacts on health such as the importance of washing your hands, finding clean water, and cleaning wounds. These small waves information being spread to the children could potentially cause much larger ripple effects on families and communities. Education is my vehicle that will lead me to impacting lives and changing how I view the world.
