Creativity by Kobe - January 2016 Scholarship Essay
Creativity
The new year is the mark of a begging of new things, and an acceptance of the way things change. As this year comes to it’s end, it becomes time to reflect and prepare for the remaining year of school. To best prepare for this year, one might reflect on the past to see what changes could be made. A quote I heard from my recent history teacher, “Those who do not know the past, are doomed to repeat it, Dude”. The mistakes and errors made in years now gone, can follow students throughout the rest of their education. General changes to be made to better improve a student's success, but what resolution would be best suited to help a student become better overall?
I believe that the quality most needed (and least seen) in today’s world is creativity. Creative students can overcome nearly any obstacle placed before them, whether it be a math problem they cannot fully understand, a science lab that produces unforeseen results, or a writing assignment on an unknown subject. Creativity is in dire need in this world that is becoming more and more standardized by the year. Maybe this next year will be the change in that long process, leading to a better and brighter future.
How should I best go about becoming more creative? That is the question truly posed to me now, and I have some ideas to suggest to you, my readers, as well. Reading books is a way to explore another person’s mind, and see things the way the author interprets them. This shared experience, can build creativity as we begin to see things from other people's eyes. New perspectives, either from books, conversation, or simply just traveling can build creativity and stir imagination. These new perspectives allow us to see how there can be more than one solution to the same problem. 3 plus 6 equals 9, but so does 7 plus 2. There’s never really only one right way to do something. Creative students can see how to solve problems in several ways, and be able to pick the best one for them.
Creative students are problem solvers, so challenging myself is another thing I plan on doing more of this year. Challenges allow me to test my ideas, work out my thinking, and improve on designs and plans I already have. The more complex the problem, the more creative and imaginative I can be with my solution. There are no limits to how strange and creative the solution can be, so long as it works.
So this year, I’m striving to be more creative, as to become a better student.
