2016: The Year of the Student by Kealy - January 2016 Scholarship Essay

At the end of every year, as people all over are counting down the seconds until midnight they are also deciding what they like the least about themselves and vow to change it in the New Year. People choose resolutions to better their health like exercising, eating better, and quitting smoking. Others choose resolutions to spend less money or volunteer more. I made a resolution to keep myself organized and to work on my time management.
Being more organized will not only dissolve the clutter on my desk but also in my head. Opening my backpack to random papers everywhere, broken pencils, and old gum wrappers floating around makes me feel chaotic when I should be focused on learning. Having my assignments, notes, and supplies tidy will not only aid in being able to locate things easier but it will also take away the stress that comes with having a messy work space. Less stress can lead to better sleep patterns and a healthier life which gives me the ability to be the best student I can. Taking away the clutter and the disorganization from my life will allow me to have a better opportunity to succeed as a student.
The goal of managing my time better would also lead to a less stressful academic life. Starting homework assignments and essays the day they are assigned instead of procrastinating until the night before they are due would also help create a better academic experience. I am also going to start using a planner to help keep myself on track with classes, assignments, and a job.
My resolutions for 2016 of better time management and to become more organized will help me better myself as a student by being less stressed out.
