New Year Better Student by Kayla - January 2016 Scholarship Essay

One New Year’s resolution that I have to become a better student is to stop procrastinating. Procrastination is a bad habit to have because deadlines are all over in any field that I want to accomplish, especially school. Not procrastinating and waiting to do anything at the last minute means no more putting off homework. No more cramming for an exam the night before. My goal is to create a schedule and stick to that. A New Year means a new and improved self.
Being able to identify that I do procrastinate is the first step, then I need to put it into action. For example if I have an exam in two weeks I need to start the study and learning process now. In order to keep this resolution in action I must keep my motivation going. To also focus on the outcome of what will happen when I don’t procrastinate and just get it done. The feeling is great when I am finished and I am not rushed or stressed out.
Everyone procrastinates. We put things off because we don’t want to do them or we are simply just too busy with everything. Putting things off big or small is part of being human. When we decide to change putting things off is up to us.
I am determined to be a better student in 2016. I am willing to leave the habit of procrastinating in past that way I can be a better student not only this year but for the years to come. Not procrastinating will not only help me be a better student this year in 2016 but will also help me be a better college student and employee. This is my New Year’s resolution to help me become a better student in 2016.
