Mission to Stop Procrastinating by Katlyn - January 2016 Scholarship Essay

My main New Year’s resolution for 2016 is to stop procrastinating. This was one of my resolutions for 2015, and I was mostly successful with it. However, I plan on completely getting rid of the nasty habit in 2016. My plan is to finish assignments (or at least start them and get the bulk of it done) as soon as they are given. This will prevent me from rushing to get it all done the last few days before it’s due. Doing that in the past has caused me great stress and makes me far more likely to do worse on the assignment.
I will also put this goal into effect for studying. As soon as there is a lecture for the next test, I will begin studying the information. Previously, I have waited until the last 2-3 days before an exam to study and I get worse grades. I also stress a lot leading up to the test, which hurts my grade even more. When I start studying earlier, I will be able to relax leading up to the test as I know I will know the information like the back of my hand. Studying like this will also make sure I retain the information, as opposed to just having it memorized for the test. This is very important because the bulk of my classes I need for my career/major, so I need to make sure I really learn the information.
This is a very common resolution that often is not actually fulfilled. I, on the other hand, will accomplish this. It will lead me to better grades and less stress, which is motivation enough to stop procrastinating.
