NORTH DAKOTA by Kathryn - December 2015 Scholarship Essay

It is difficult to predict where I will be in the future; however, my plan 10 years from now includes a profession in which I teach music. I will have completed high school and college with a degree in music education. With that degree, I will teach music at a nearby school and provide opportunities for students wishing to take private lessons.
My previous education has already assisted me to reach these goals of my 10-year plan. Through academics and observation, I have acquired a set of skills in which I plan to expand on with my college education. Over the years, I have learned various teaching styles from many of my teachers who pass on knowledge to their students. Additionally, many of these teachers have inspired me to pursue a degree in education.
In college, I will learn about the psychology behind teaching, so that I can teach to the diverse student population. I will learn about music history and the effect it has on today’s society. Additionally I will increase my musicianship skills. All of these skills and knowledge sets will present me as a qualified employee.
Finally, I have and will continue to meet and socialize with multiple people as I complete high school and continue into college. As I meet different types of people and interact with them, I will continue to learn. This will assist my ability to connect and form bonds with the individual students I will work with as a music educator.
My education has already provided me with knowledge and the inspiration to become an educator myself. College will continue to provide me with knowledgeable skills in music, education, and the ability to interact well with others to be a marketable person in the education field. Because of this, I will be able to reach my ten-year plan of becoming a music educator.
