Battle Plan for 2016 Annual Hunger Games by Katelyn - January 2016 Scholarship Essay

As I pressed the “I accept” button for enrollment into my classes next semester, I essentially volunteered as Tribute in the 2016 Annual Hunger Games. My decision to double major in Business Management and Finance means full Spring and Fall semesters of five to six classes, and three classes during the summer term. May the odds be ever in my favor.

Flashing back to last semester, the six classes I took barely spit me out in one piece. I literally sat at my large kitchen table, papers covering every inch of wood, as I studied for hours at a time. I would go without eating, sleeping, or even moving from my spot at the table, for long periods of time. It seems as I unleashed a nest of “Tracker Jackers” on my enemies Procrastination and Laziness, I couldn’t help getting stung myself. This hardcore studying and lack of self-care led to a major burnout halfway through the semester, complete with a fever, chills, and an inability to lift myself out of bed for almost three days straight.

This year I am promising to act as my own sponsor in the academic arena. My New Year’s Resolution to help me become a better student in 2016 is to schedule time to refresh and de-stress. For every hour and a half of studying, I will schedule in twenty minutes of exercise or a small snack time so that I am better able to maintain my health, and in turn, continue producing top academic work. Proactive thinking and preparation can only serve to benefit my physical and mental health in the long run- and should effectively tilt the odds ever more in my favor.
