My Personal Progress by Karlie - January 2016 Scholarship Essay

I am Mormon. In order to understand my essay, you need to know that. There is a program for young women ages 12-18 called Personal Progress, and it focuses on exactly that: the girls' personal progress. Throughout this program there are innumerable ways for the young woman to find and develop talents that will help her through life. I've done this program all the way through once already, and my New Years Resolution is to do it again.
As I mentioned before, there are untold gifts that come with this program. The girls learn how to strengthen themselves through the study and application of 8 different values. They ponder on Faith, their Divine Nature, their Individual Worth, their Knowledge, their Choices and Accountability of those choices, their Good Works, their Integrity, and their Virtue. These values are indispensable in today's world. They are useful in every aspect of their lives, especially education. In a world that is failing, people, not just girls, with these values stand out and lift others up.
You might ask yourself, these are great, but how will they make you a better student? I will tell you. If a girl studies on faith and her individual worth, she develops faith in herself and knows of her worth. She becomes confident, and sure of herself. Students that are confident do better in school. If she studies her divine nature and learns about who she is, where she came from, and where she's going, she will develop a sense of purpose. She will know what to do with her life. If she has a purpose and a drive, she will do better in school. If she studies the importance of knowledge, she will be more eager to learn and study her school work. If she learns how to make choices and accept accountability for those choices, she will strive to make good choices, choices that will lead her to college and a successful career, instead of some not-so-great alternative. If she learns to help others and do good works, she will have friends, a support group, people she can trust and ask for help from. Students with a larger friend base and supportive people do better in school. If she studies integrity and virtue, she will learn the importance of following her moral compass, she will learn to stand up for herself. She will learn how to live an exemplary life. She won't cheat and she won't deceive. She'll be an honest student with a passion for learning.
These are the values and traits I expect to learn and gain from the Personal Progress Program. It's a hard program, but as you can see, it is worth it. I am a Senior in High School and this is the last year that I can do the Personal Progress Program. It has helped me once, and it will help me again as I prepare to go off to college. I know that if I keep my New Years Resolution and complete the Personal Progress Program once more, I will be better off, and more prepared than ever to start my journey at college.
