Making a Difference by Joseph - January 2017 Scholarship Essay
Being in high school surrounds students around people that have positive backgrounds and are going through the same struggles or other that already went through them, they can help us become or discover what we really want to do in life. There is also many doors open for students that want to join clubs or realize extracurricular activities, and in some cases realize volunteer work.
As a sophomore, the high school that I attend at that current time organized volunteer work for who ever wanted to help at a home for elder people, through this experience we learned many things that are not taught in a classroom. The group of students was able to see in the conditions that many people of an advanced age are spending their last days of life in, and motivated us to gather food for these person, clean the space they live in, listen to them, and program activities where they can feel better and forget in the circumstances they are in.
Through this volunteer work I was inspired to be more kind with people of these ages, respect them as any adult deserves, appreciate the time that I was able to spend with with family members that went through the same circumstances, and to appreciate my parents at this time because soon or late they might be in the same conditions and they will deserve to be treated with respect and be loved.
After this volunteer activity I decided to gather food for these person by my own means, so that the students that were the next ones to live this experience could make these foods get to them. I hope to live more experiences like these in my life and in a future to make a change in the life of many people or at least make their last days unforgettable.
