Extracurricular Activities: Required
In high schools across America, students who are involved in nothing outside of the school setting are graduating. This non-involvement sets many up for failure after finishing high school. Because they are not involved in extracurricular activities, they struggle at managing their time. Not only that, but when given a workload such as that in which college bestows upon its students, those who struggle with time management may find a great deal of adversity in their life. Activities build the foundation for intellectual and successful individuals and it separates them from others in their school because they have experienced more. Experience is truly the driving factor that contributes to successes in future achievement. Lastly, work ethic continues along with the people who are involved in other activities, because with extra activities comes extra hard work.
Time management is a key component not only in school but in life. Many obstacles are thrown in your way, so if you do not know how to manage your time wisely, you may find yourself buried in a dauntingly deep pit of duties and responsibilities. This ability to evolve around time translates over to the real world and if you do not build on this foundation in high school, the ability grows more and more difficult to gain as time goes on. Extracurricular activities coerce students to tackle time with a concentration unlike their uninvolved counterparts. Academic success regarding students who do not take part in activities is not to be overlooked, but rather those who find those same academic successes , and who are also involved in extracurricular activities may contribute to greater advantages due to more diverse experiences.
Experience is a treasure that the mind adapts to quickly. When you are immersed in an unfamiliar experience, you learn more rapidly to familiarize yourself with it. Extracurricular activities are full of unfamiliar occurrences. You will not gain many new experiences just sitting in class. Non-scholastic involvements take you to new places, and with new places come new experiences. If these activities were required, students would be better prepared for college and the future beyond. Do we not want our future leaders to stretch beyond the horizon, or do we want them to settle with reaching it?
Work ethic is like a muscle; you can keep building it, and if you continue, you will have a very strong muscle. Failure to use this muscle results in a weakness where one cannot lift the burden of adversity. It is hard to find in people, that unrelenting driving force that propels one to excel, but, finding it is not hard to find if you know where to look. A person with a strong work ethic is not one you will find exclusively in a classroom, but one who is striving to expand their horizons and find new, challenging activities in which to apply and test their work ethic. Extracurricular activities strengthen the muscle that is work ethic and contributes to successful and accomplished high school graduates.
In such a competitive world, extracurricular activities allow students to harness the ability to compete in it. Only the fittest survive, and the fittest are those who are involved. Asking these activities to be a requirement for graduation is not a steep request; it is an astute observation that will benefit the world and the future of students. Extracurricular activities mold people into hard working, individualistic, and responsible human beings. Without them, the world would sink under the waves of unforeseen hardship.
