10 years, 1 dream by Jessica - December 2015 Scholarship Essay

If you'd have asked me four months ago where I'd be in ten years, I wouldn't have been able to tell you. I began my senior year as someone who was incredibly afraid. At around the end of my junior year, and over the summer, I developed an immense fear of being forgotten. I was unable to attain the confidence that allows so many students my age to feel successful and sure in the paths that they plan to take.
At that time, my goal was to pursue journalism and in some way - unknown to even myself - I hoped to change the world. I dreamed vividly of times when people would say, "She's made an impact on my life." But again, at the time, this seemed so incredibly unattainable.
Taking AP Psychology was a no-brainer, it was something that I was going to do without a doubt. However, I'd have no idea that it would change who I planned to be so entirely. After just four months of AP Psychology, I am completely set on becoming a neuropsychologist, with a plan to change the lives of both traumatic brain injury patients and special needs children - hoping to allow both the opportunity to survive as normally as possible.
In ten years, that's where I'd like to be: In my own office with a PhD and a knack for learning, a devout plan to change the lives of those who cannot. I hope with everything that I am that one day, I'll receive that call that affirms that my abilities as a neuropsychologist and as a person, will have paid off - if not for me then for a golden soul who feels lost and without hope. I would like to restore that hope.
This dream has been painted upon me by the education I've received in the past year, so there is absolutely no way that my education in the future will not be nurtured into something even greater. When there is a will, there is a way, and I believe that firmly with everything that I am.
Today, I write this essay as a high school senior with dreams of changing lives, and ten years from now, I hope to be a neuropsychologist pursuing my dreams - those nine years of schooling will give me the benefits that include potentially helping me to hone my abilities as a person, to simply know who I am and be strong in what I do.
The next nine years will be spent at the University of Georgia in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences, and I know that within those walls, I will be able to let my dreams blossom and everything will come together.
Everything will be just as it should.
