Not all strict teachers are bad by Jamie - November 2015 Scholarship Essay
Having an education is an important thing. It is much more than basic reading, and writing stuff. It is also about knowing how to be ready for the real world when you get out of high school and into college. I think what I am most thankful for is Mrs. Leveridge, my World Literature teacher, preparing me for the real world.
My World Literature teacher is the toughest teacher I have ever had. All my other teachers have always been laidback, accepted late assignments, and sometimes did the work for us if we kept repeatedly saying we could not figure out how to do it. However, Mrs. Leveridge is a totally different story. She is the exact opposite of laid back, which is not always a bad thing. She is super strict about when assignments should be turned in and always makes us do our own work. She helps us most of the time but never does it for us, something we are not quite use to.
Sometimes during class, I can get frustrated very easily. Especially when I cannot figure out what topic to write about, how to start a paper I am doing,or do the worksheets that she gives us. Mrs. Leveridge never lets me take the easy way to figuring all this stuff out. I am not fond of it but that is when I am thankful for her the most. Because when I have a similar assignment next time, I will already know what I need to do to understand it and figure it out. Instead of having to ask her for help multiple times again I will already be ahead.
In all reality, having a strict teacher who is not laid back at all is a good thing for me. She is not just a strict teacher, she is also very kind. She cares about the students more than some teachers do. She will help you as much as she can on a college paper you have due or research colleges you are interested in to see if it is a good school or not.
Most teachers will not research colleges just for your benefit. I have been very blessed to be able to have Mrs. Leveridge as a teacher this year. Although her class may be hard at times, I would not trade her being my teacher for anything. She is going to prepare me for college more than any other teacher could. That is why I am thankful for Mrs. Leveridge. She never gives up on us, always trying to help us succeed, and is the teacher that has pushed me the hardest.
