What Lies Ahead by India - December 2015 Scholarship Essay

In 2011, a study by the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that 68.3 percent of high school graduates in 2011 were enrolled in college. In 2014, the Bureau of Labor Statistics found that only 65.9 percent of high school graduates would attend college. That is almost 3 percent less within 3 years. To earn a high school education is significant and fundamental, but to take the extra step to extend one's education by going to college is extremely important. In ten years, I would love to become an art teacher, and in order to get there, I need a solid education to help fuel that dream.
Some time from now, I picture myself living in a nice suburban home in Northern Michigan. I would be an art teacher that works for one of the nearby schools. I see myself having a surplus of art supplies scattered around my home. Though, being as messy as I am, I would not mind. I would just paint on a canvas while I sing along to the music playing on my speaker. I also see myself having a Jeep in the driveway and a pink colored scooter in my garage. As you can see, I have many dreams. Like everyone else, my dreams require money, and in order to have money, I need a job. Though there is a difference between having a job, and having a job that I enjoy. All of the jobs that I seem to show interest in require an education. For instance, I really want to become an art teacher, this requires a high school diploma and a minimum of a bachelor's degree in art education. Education is the core of everything.
Ten years from now, I want nothing but success, and I will do whatever it takes. From the looks of it, an education is a must in order to reach that. Many teenagers out there seem to believe that success is far fetched and is simply unachievable. Though in reality, it takes nothing but effort, and lots of it. Education is a big chunk of that effort. One must work very hard. Some days, one might feel like giving up and just want to quit; that’s just a part of the ride. There are plenty of major and minor parts that make up education. Major steps include getting through elementary school, then middle school, high school, and then eventually college. Minor steps include simple things like learning how to talk or write; though these little things soon become massive important things. Education is essential, and will fuel one’s past, present and future.
A high school diploma, and a minimum of a bachelor's degree in art education; that’s what is needed for me to achieve my dream job of becoming an art teacher. Though that’s not all. I also need to put in an excessive amount of effort and have the drive to never give up. Though it will not be easy. In ten years, I dream to be an artistic girl teaching hundreds of kids with a classroom of my own and one will see driving a pink scooter around town. Though, the only way to reach this goal is if I have a good, quality education.
