Awesome Work by Ilana - January 2016 Scholarship Essay

I am studying Art Direction at The Creative Circus, a school for people who want to succeed in the world of advertising. This year I have limited my New Year’s resolutions to just one simple one: Make awesome work at The Creative Circus. Of course, this resolution is not something that is automatic; it entails an incredible amount of hard work. Graphic Design (a major part of Art Direction) requires large amounts of practice for one to become good. My goal is to put all of my effort into all steps of my work rather than just make something that is “good enough.” I have learned that my best work is produced when I go above and beyond what is required of me, therefore I believe I can create amazing things when I apply that principle to all of my work.

So why do I want to create awesome work? Not only will it accelerate my career, but I also believe that great design work makes the world a more beautiful place. Imagine a world where advertisements and logos were generic and boring. People’s moods would be less happy and less vibrant. If I can brighten a few people’s days with a well-designed advertisement, I would feel like I’ve accomplished a great deal. This is why I believe I can change the world through design and why I want to make awesome work.
