What aspect of my education am I most thankful for? by Hayden - November 2015 Scholarship Essay
The aspect of my education that I’m most thankful for is the opportunity it gave me to be the student body president. It takes academic achievement, confidence and most importantly, classmate bonding to earn the support to be student body president.
In order to earn the vote of the study body, the candidate needs to be successful in academics. My educational opportunities throughout my entire life have taught me not only basic reading, writing and math skills, but to excel in the Advanced Placement classes in English, Science and Math. The knowledge I gained each year continued to grow to allow me many wonderful opportunities to win awards such as Spanish Student of the Month, Woodmen of World History Award and to be a Carson Scholar 7 times. My teachers taught me to not only complete the work they assigned, but to challenge myself and to work hard at everything.
Exceling in academics provided an excellent component to building my self-confidence and giving me the courage to run for study body president. With each class my educators encouraged me to participate in class discussions, give speeches or tutor fellow classmates after school. Each time I took a chance to speak in front of others, I gained more confidence in my ability to lead and to take charge of social settings, such as encouraging responsible intelligent choices among my peers. Voters look for confidence in their leaders, and the experiences I gained from my education made me the confident man I am today.
Obviously it is very important to obtain an education for the academics, however an extremely important component of any education are the bonds you develop with your classmates. From a very early age you spend many hours a day in an environment where the goal is to learn. Whether it’s from sharing in the tedious task of classwork or from sharing snacks from your lunchbox with your classmates, the bonds you make in school can last a lifetime. My friends and I have shared athletic experiences, academic challenges and dealt with the many challenges teenage years put you through. The bonds I made through the years supported me and helped me obtain the position of Student Body President for Mountain Ridge High School.
Being student body president is the most important part of my education because it represents not only being a leader among my classmates that I have bonded with since pre-school and Ithat I cherish, but it represents my hard work in the classroom and the confidence I have in myself to achieve my goals I have set for the future. I will always remember with great pride being elected Student Body President and all the accomplishments it represents. I am extremely thankful that my education has allowed me this opportunity because it will serve as the stepping stone for my goals throughout life.
