Volunteering gives you the chance to not only change your life, but the lives of others as well. I have volunteered at Ohio County Hospital every summer since I was in eighth grade. I have always had an interest in healthcare; but being a volunteer helped me to gain confidence in knowing that I wanted to go into the medical field. After seeing all the different professions that are available, it opened my eyes to Physical Therapy.
I love the thought of being able to help people in need. But I have always been a little hesitant about what area would suit me because I have always had trouble dealing with blood. So, without the blessing of being able to volunteer and be able to truly see the different areas of healthcare in action, I don’t know that I would have been able to have the confidence in knowing that Physical Therapy is for me.
I was able to volunteer in the Rehab Department many times. I was able to talk to the Assistants and work with the patients. Seeing these kids, or even adults, not able to walk or function to their optimal level breaks my heart. Everyone deserves to have help to be the best they can be. Volunteering changed my life and paved the way for my future. I hope it has changed someone I have helped too.
