I am most thankful for... by Faith - November 2015 Scholarship Essay
I am most thankful for the numerous educational opportunities I have been offered, especially Advanced Placement (college-level) courses. I learn quickly, and academic level courses have always felt slow-paced and too easy. Even some honors course are slow, and I usually have too much down time while others are working. I love how fast-paced AP classes are. I truly believe that, because of these advanced opportunities in high school, I am better prepared for my extended education.
As well, by taking the AP tests, I have been able to gain college credits at no cost. This is a huge advantage, as paying for college is one of my biggest struggles. By taking these courses, I have a head start that has allowed me to save money and time when I enter college.
These courses have also taught me valuable study and note-taking tips. I have never taken very good notes, but I have usually done well in class. However, in these more difficult courses, it isn’t possible to pass without taking good notes and studying. This was a difficult transition for me, though I am glad I was able to learn in high school, rather than risking my grades in college when I didn’t know how to study properly.
The last thing that I truly love about these AP courses is the variety. I enjoy being able to try out classes and discovering what I enjoy without flushing hundreds of dollars down the drain if I find out it isn’t something I am good at or enjoy. I like the opportunity to take a few classes just to experiment with my interests, without being deeply financially involved with these subjects.
