Time Management is the Key to Success by Dylan - January 2016 Scholarship Essay

As a college student, one must assess their academic output regularly to continually improve. I have heavily contemplated on what I must do in order to obtain my academic goals. The New Year’s resolution that will make me a more successful student in 2016 is time management. For many people, especially college freshman, it is difficult to allocate your time accordingly. However, it is the best skill to have to maintain overall balance in your life. Especially as an engineering student, you cannot spend all of your time on school work. You must find time for yourself. If I set myself to a specific schedule, I will find my way to success
This New Year’s resolution will hold a schedule to my day-to-day activities throughout the week. My obligations will be put in first such as classes and work schedule. A healthy teenager needs to put around eight hours of sleep each night. Also, there will be a cumulative of two hours between hygiene and eating in a day. This may seem like a light schedule to have extra time in the day, however strategically putting study hours in your schedule will bring success.
Studies have shown, with every credit hour you must put in three hours in that course outside of class in a week. If you are taking 17 credit hours that is 51 hours in a week. Breaking them up into smaller chunks will help with focusing on the subject. It is also crucial to take a 30 minute nap each day in order to keep your alertness and performance up. This is a lot of study hours, but if you break it up throughout the day you will feel more confident.
Time management will be the essential key to my success as a student in 2016. I believe that time management will be the best way to be more successful for several reasons. When you manage your time, there will be less stress because I have planned accordingly. If I follow such a regimented schedule I will therefore get more work done because I am aware of all that I need to do. The other huge key is that it will create more free time, because of less procrastination and supplementary work. With dedicated time management and hard work ethic I believe my goals will be attained by having a better academic output this 2016.
