10 Years From Now Essay by Daymon - December 2015 Scholarship Essay

As the first semester of my senior year slowly fades away, I have found myself spending a lot of time thinking about my future. I am sure that this is something that every senior does, as the summer will bring all of us an incredible, new chapter in our lives and it is very nice to think about who we want to become and where we want to end up. Even though there is quite a bit of time left in the school year, with the way time is speeding by, it will be graduation day before we know it. The future is coming upon us vastly and the reality of that bittersweet fact is growing bigger and bigger every day in the mind of every senior this year.
Currently I have been working hard to keep up a weighted 3.87 GPA, learn lines for my part in the school’s upcoming play, fulfill my duties as president of both Student Council and National Honor Society, and fill out college and scholarship applications. I have been accepted to Portland State University, Western Oregon University, and University of Oregon. I plan on attending University of Oregon this fall, as it is my first choice school. I plan on keeping up my grades, as well as my extracurricular activities for the rest of the school year, when I pass the torches of thespianism, and presidency onto the next senior class.
After graduation, I plan on moving to Eugene and getting a full time job for the summer so that I can make money to support myself. After working all summer, once classes start, I will become a part-time worker and a full-time student, majoring in pre-journalism. I also plan on auditioning for a production at the university in hopes to be a part of their theatre program. Theatre is my passion in life and I would really enjoy being able to continue to pursue my love for theatre once I get to college.
As far as ten years from now is concerned, I do not have all the details mapped out, but I plan on being successful. I definitely see myself living in a big city like Los Angeles or Seattle, working in Public Relations. I would love to see myself being respected in my professional field, making enough money to live comfortably and have nice things. Being in a serious relationship with someone, ready to settle down would also be ideal. I could also see myself directing theatre productions if the opportunity came up. I have directed before and it is one of the most challenging, yet fun and rewarding things I have ever had the pleasure of doing.
While ten years is pretty far away, it is still important to plan ahead, and have a route mapped out to follow so that ten years from now, I won’t be lost with no direction. My compass to success is definitely going to be my education. This far, my education has gotten me accepted to college, and will hopefully get me some scholarships, so I would say I have done well for myself so far, but this is only just the beginning. Moving on to higher education will be the key to a happy, successful life.
Even though I have not yet started attending college, I know that everything I learn will ensure the future life I want myself to be living ten years from now. Everything that I encounter throughout college, in and out of the classroom, will help me better myself as both a worker and a human being. I am very excited to learn how to prepare myself for a career I see myself doing for the rest of my life.
School has taught me how to have the drive and determination it takes to become the person I want to be. My education has always been my top priority, and I am so incredibly thankful to see all of my hard work pay off as this year progresses. I look forward to working hard in college and seeing that work pay off as well, and I have no doubts that if I stay on the path I am currently on, I will be exactly where I see myself ten years from now.
