A Decade of Determination by Colleen - December 2015 Scholarship Essay
In 10 years, I picture myself reminiscing on the day I got to hear, “Colleen Murnane, PhD in Physical Therapy”. Those words will mark the beginning of accomplishing a long list of personal goals. Helping others and exercising are two of my favorite activities that have led to my perfect career choice. I plan on graduating college with my doctorate, opening my own Physical Therapy practice and market.
Receiving my PhD in Physical Therapy will be the ultimate milestone in my future profession. To earn this title, I have to spend at least 6 years in college. This degree represents dedication to pursuing the best qualities in a field. The challenge of extra schooling, internships, and licensing only motivates me to achieve rather than cause discouragement. I want to ensure my abilities as a Physical Therapist are immaculate, and I am more than willing to further my education to reach this goal.
Opening my own Physical Therapy practice has always been a dream of mine, which I plan to pursue soon after graduation. I can picture myself having plenty of exercise and therapy options such as aquatic therapy and a place to rehab the balance of patients. I am also very adamant about nutrition, and plan to offer healthy snacks for clients at any time during a session. Having a personal business will teach me responsibility, organization while displaying an added amount of commitment to my career.
In addition to my own Physical Therapy practice, I would also like to open a health food market. Before my father passed away, he used to tell me stories of his impoverished family and how desperate they were for food. He explained that every meal was almost a fight to eat any scrap of food possible. I wish to support struggling families and any consumer by growing my own produce. This market will provide comfort for a family, for at least one meal.
To finish these plans in the next 10 years, I not only know what I want to achieve, but what motivates me to accomplish them. I aim to utilize this personal drive in next decade, and I will persist until my goals are reached.
