School Accomplishments - Not Always About The Grade by Colby - December 2016 Scholarship Essay

Life is a roller coaster ride and it can be difficult to confront and overcome the many obstacles set before you. The way you choose to overcome obstacles makes you a stronger individual. Whatever you are faced with in life, you must take charge of your destiny and show that you are willing to do whatever it takes to be successful.

I have worked through many hardships and learned how to function with a disability. I have stuttered my entire life and faced ridicule, finger pointing, and name calling. These hardships could have negatively impacted me, but I kept my head high and I have been driven to overcome the impacts of stuttering.
Society itself is a challenge for teenagers, as so many young people are using and distributing illegal drugs and alcohol. I have surrounded myself with like-minded individuals in order to avoid the toll illegal substances could play on my life.

My entire life has been spent striving to achieve the goals that I have set for myself. I have overcome financial hardships, the difficulties associated with stuttering, and avoided the pitfalls of drugs and alcohol. I have learned to never let a disability hold you back from realizing your true potential, to pursue my dreams, and accomplish every goal I have ever set. These are the reasons I feel I am deserving of a scholarship. A scholarship would be a dream come true. I would be so grateful to achieve my pre-med dreams with your assistance.
