New Year's Resolutions for Real This Time by CJ - January 2016 Scholarship Essay

Every year millions make New Year's resolutions and few keep them. Why do most people struggle with keeping them though? Tons write them and put them on their fridge or somewhere where they will see them. Most of these goals are not meaningful goals though.

My resolution for this year is to find the reward in goals I set so I can see the end from the beginning. Every day is the first day of the rest of our lives. Why not live in the present but look to the future? Seeing rewards in the future and rewarding yourself when you do something good is so necessary. Humans are always in need of encouragement. One of my favorite phrases is "Treat Yourself." If you do something good, get a reward. We aren't all dogs but sometimes it is great and motivating to be rewarded like them. Who doesn't love getting a reward for doing something good to achieve something they set?

As I go throughout this upcoming year, there is so much potential to either do so much to become a better student or so many distractions that can keep me from achieving all that I could. Seeing these trials in front of me and looking at them with a reward in mind will help me to look at all of the exams and classes I have to take with different sight. It will help me be more positive and try harder because I am always looking at the end from the beginning. This time, my New Year's resolution is for real!
