College is becoming more competitive each year, a key to become accepted into college is it to show how well rounded an individual is, especially throughout one's high school career. By having extracurricular activities be a high school graduation requirements would benefit the students. It will provide involvement within the community and high school, the ability to discover one's true self, and have more leadership opportunities.
A student that is involved within their high school is very beneficial especially for those interested in becoming college students. Being involved in extracurricular activities has many benefits, it enables students to decide on a career and be better prepared for the future. Due to the fact, he or she will be able to identify their interest based on the extracurricular activities they chose. This will help students identify a major he or she is interested in prior to enrolling in college classes. Considering, most extracurricular activities have a career related to them, such as the club Future Business Leaders of America, which helps students prepare for the business world. Students that identify their major in high school are more likely to become successful and dependable people in the future. The reason being, is students that plan out their future are individuals that are determined and are wanting to become prosperous. Furthermore, colleges also look at how involved the student is within the activities he or she participates in, having club president or officer written on an application is an additional point that could determine if a student is accepted or denied.
Life is expensive enough, going to college with an undecided major, taking classes, then deciding on a career wastes money as well as time. High School is suppose to prepare students for college, as well as students futures. Taking the time now will benefit students down the road, because he or she decided to take the road less traveled and be prepared for his or her future. By simply including extracurricular activities as a graduation requirement will increase college acceptance opportunities, as well as saving money and time.
