10 Years from Now by Charles - December 2015 Scholarship Essay

Where do I see myself 10 years from now? After completing a journey of unexpected surprises, challenges, heartbreak, and joy. Experiences I will gain through attending a university and actually discovering a new place in the world one in which I don’t have the same level of safety net and boundaries my family had set for me at home for the past 18 years. It is one in which I will fall and rise sometimes learning painful, but ultimately useful lessons about life and love. The journey is one I feel confident in taking though because of the guiding principles and advice given to me. I will wander about trying to establish my place in the world in which I am a fully contributing citizen of my community and one who has a job that has a purpose that gives back to the country I love. It will make me feel I am not just punching a time clock to pick up a check, but doing something useful. I will have met my future wife, made friends upon which I can count on forever, and I will stand ready to do my part to establish my generations identity by all the prognosticator’s and pundit’s as the generation who has set the standard for the next 100 years.
The education I receive will be a major part of the discovery process needed to become a complete person. I will be asked to question, analyze and critically think about topics I have to this point never even looked at before. I will examine multiple viewpoints on situations which may cause me to change my thinking on those same topics. I will be able to engage others and refine the way I communicate so I can successfully engage with my ideas and thoughts and help build that world in which I can look back on and say yes I left it a better place then I found it.
